Photographer’s Note
Can you see North Africa?
One day going to The Rock - Gibraltar, to look over to North Africa.
And what did I get: Heavy rain, wind and the good old fog...
The most exotic memory from this visit was entering a very typical English Pub some place in the city.. (After the Museum also including the old Roman Baths)
Europa Point
is the southernmost tip of Gibraltar, and the home to the lighthouse. This lighthouse is the most southerly of all Trinity House Lighthouses, being the only one outside the United Kingdom. It stands 49 metres above the High Water mark at the southernmost end of the Rock of Gibraltar. The foundation stone was laid by Governor Sir Alexander Woodford on the 26th April, 1838, with the assistance of the Masonic Order in Gibraltar and was opened on 1 August 1841, attracting over 2000 onlookers from the surrounding countryside. It was fully automated in February 1994 and its loom can be seen over a distance of 27 kilometres.

It is still a very nice shot, Jack, that seems to convey well the rugged nature of this place. The curved gravel path nicely leads towards the lighthouse, which adds a pleasant touch of color to the seaside scene. Good notes, too.
This reminds me of a day in Olympic National Park, where I was standing on a viewpoint in front of a "What you see from here" sign explaining all the peaks and scenery. However I was just looking into a milky soup of fog ;o)

Not lucky, I guess.
Nice lighthouse though. Why did you leave the red in the foreground??
A bit disturbing..

I think it's god to see a rainy grey-weather shot, the world ain't sunshine all the time.
I don't understand the red thing in the foreground, it is too vauge to act as an element in the composition, but still intrusive. Personally I'm not a fan of colored frames either, but that is just my tastes.
Looking at the photo, I think that it could be interesting to have a photo with only the lighthouse tower and the grey sky and sea as background. I made a workshop to show the general concept.

You made the best of the appalling conditions. There's good colour and the grass always looks good in this kind of humid circumstances ;-) I like the compo with the road leading us with a swerve into the picture and the mist adds a touch of mystery. Good job, Jack with nice notes to match it.

I kind of like this type of light as it brings a lot of mood to a shot, Jack, and the mist in background here is adding even more of that atmosphere. Sorry for the luck you had with the weather, but you captured the wonderful colours and details of the lighthouse after all. I like your shot very much!

Unfortunately the only photos I have from Gibraltar are very foggy, even more than this one. Down at the spanish beach the visibilty is excellent and we could see the African coast, but the rock of Gibraltar lies inside a permanent cloud.
Anyway you managed a very nicr shot despite the wather. I would like to go there again. Well done, Jack.

Neat! The white, red and green are interesting. They balance your composition.

La photo est bien composée le constraste phare brume est extra .
En revanche la barre rouge sur le coté droit est dérangeante à mes yeux.

Hey, just noticed yoru photo on the Home page with one of mine! featured Destination Gibraltar : )
I have this exact same view, promises of being able to see Africa but all we got was fog too! I think they must export the British weather to Gibraltar to make the British who live there feel at home!
Whats the red thing in the foreground, im not sure I like it there.
Still a nice lighthouse shot.
Well taken and if you receive this soon your photo is on the home page!
