Wear Riverside Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is Sunderland's riverside taken from St. Peter's campus on the north side of the river wear. The National Glass Centre is nearby. In the background are the Wearmouth roadbridge and rail bridge. A few decades ago this scene would have been one of shipbuilding, which has all now gone from the Wear, the sculpture in the foreground hints at this heritage. The building in the top left of the shot is a new apartment block which is nearing completion. On the day I took this shot the sky was white, and although I have 'played about' with colour levels, I have been unable to improve the sky colour.

Hi Steve, I like the point of view that you have taken it from it makes the nut stand out realy good, your DOF it perfect and I know what you mean about the sky as I get a lot of that type of cloud cover and I never can do any thing with them as that is just the way it was.
Its always a bit sad to see our Docks all empty now when it would be a lot better to see our Docks full of Boats being built, but that life. Anyway I think you captured the whole place very well so well done.

Hi Steve,

Nice shot, good POV. I agree with you about the sky, why not try taking another shot with a blue sky, I think it is the easiest way. TFS:-)

Hello Steve,
Interesting composition that really puts the giant nut in the frame and nicely sets off the bridges. If you can, I agree your best bet is to go back and try again when the sky is in a more helpful mood. It doesn't need to be totally blue, some interesting clouds could add atmosphere. Also, the tower cranes might have gone by then ;-)
