Photographer’s Note
just checking in to say hello....
not much time to participate on TE at the moment, but I will try to check in properly soon...
oh: learning part: those are called granny smith apples - very sour! Did you know, that the majority of apples on British supermarket shelves are from alternative parts of the world, such as New Zealand. Most of our "fresh" produce have done more food miles than many of my relatives who live in remote Indian villages...
I am having a few problems with my monitor and general PP at the moment. Are the apples too green??

Nice little cameo Kaj. Great expressions, very funny! And the apples add a much needed splash of colour. TFS, Roberto

Awww. this one is fantastic, not only because I'm a green color afficionado... probably the most asian photo taken in a western city market.
Seriously I thought this kind of people/market shot was taken somewhere in between Bombay and Saigon... :) ... probably thanks to the way the people here, naturally play with you taking the photo, I thought that was something lost : you have CHARMED them, Kaj.
Two things :
Yes, I think the green color is over saturated, you should fiddle with your Pshop/color saturation/ green color/saturation level...
You should also crop a bit of the top of the image, the "fruit and veggies" posts only add distraction to this scene. Also it would help placing the playful folk in the vertical thirds of the image.

Hi Kajal.
I like your shot a lot. It's colourful both in the contents and in the expressions of the people. The result is great. But I do find the person in the right quite "out of subject", as she is slightly blurred and her expression is a bit dull and much in contrast to the ones of the people on the left.
I suggest you a little different pov as a workshop. Just a crop. I'd love to know what you'll think of it.
Great post all the same.
Regards,
Robert

Really nice shot. I like the look on the man's face, looking at you. The apples are indeed a little too green but they have a nice color. Nice POV.

Just a great shot, Kaj. That witty hide-an-seek game with the man laying akong makes for a super shot with a tension all its own. Those enormous GREEN apples providing al the cover... Luko is right about the Asian impression at first (for me it's more so at the thumbnail stage); there IS an Asian face to the right though... But all in all it's a brilliant British farce, yu and the ol Brit folks having a good old laugh resulting in a prize winning shot, slightly oversaturated and all...
Cheers,
Francis

Hi Kaj!
Yes, I know, I know. I did not come often in your gallery... No reason, except limited time and the courtesy call for people who left a critique on my own pictures. Anyway, I saw this photo this morning, but with a screen way too dark. I wanted to wait to see it with my own computer. And yes, the apples seems a bit too green. But hey! Don't worry too much. It's not that important. The important thing is the image itself which made me laugh in the morning and again tonight. Yes, this man with his beret! It's brilliant! A funny photo, with lots of life. You are there, we feel it. People see you. We see them seing you. Interaction all the way. Love it!

Heh amusing shot Kajal. The look on the mans face completely makes this photo work.
Funnily enough the best Australian produce also goes overseas, while most of the fruit and vegies which we consume are from China!

Hi Kajal,
The look of that man is special. Also the bowls where the apples are look interesting. The apples look slightly too green. But this also looks oversharpened and overcompressed. I'm not sure if it's because of PP or different camera. Your shots usually don't have those problems.

Hi Kaj
Brilliant photography. Great patterns for a start and I luv those classic 'Brit' expressions. Lots of repetition textures details and also a good depth. amazing work here. Yea I find them bit too green but that's nothing when this compo and angle is excellent already.
Hv a nice day

Hi Kaj
In my opinion this one is much better than the fishes!
You can try to crop only the man with foreground apples to accentuate his expression.

Hi Kaj.
The apples are awfully green; I know Granny Smiths and this isn't quite it. HOwever, they look good for the photo. I absolutely love how the man is looking across the apples; I would guess it was at you, but his expression doesn't quite seem like that. Whatever the reason, it looks so great for the photo. Why was he crouched like that? No idea, but I really like it. The woman on the left looks not dissimilar (sorry for the double negative) to QEII. Good use of relatively limited DOF (for a point and shoot). Really good one here, one of your best I think.

read all the critiques, looked at the photo again and again (kept coming back to it) but i still have to say it doesn't do it for me... i mean the pov's fine, people nicely scattered in the frame, quality is good, i like the greens (looks o.k. to me) but still it's just too "snapshoty"... i think it's the people looking into the camera...
how was your singapore trip? (i'll try to revisit your gallery when i have some more time)

I love the sharp green against the rest of the grey and darker colors. It reminds me of the painting of the surrealist Magaritte.
I like it alot the out of focus lady and the close apples are really engaging as well as teh confontational stare of the man.
I would love to hear the story of how you shot this and what the man thought of it.

Hello Kajal, hahaha, this is exactly what the doctor ordered! An apple a day... but no, I didn't mean THAT. I mean the expression of the little man there! Ah! What a moment! Fantastic! The green is a bit too intense, yes, but not disturbingly. WOuld be a different story with red, imo. But the shot is amazing, the moment really caught on the fly, and how! My hat is off to you, Kaj... this man is worth a million!

Oh hi Kaj, hadn't noticed you start posting again, well, 'too' is a subjective word, they're very green, but look good like that, and the guy is absolute magic.

Terrible! Great shot. You play with people with this one. I like it,

PS not too green for grannies. If the apples were golden apples, my answer would not be the same!

Bloody hell. I typed up a crit on this the other day. Coming back to have another look, it's not there. No doubt some petty household dispute or a mugging out in the street (we had a gunfire one day) dragged me away at the crucial moment and that was the end of that.
Anyway, I was in the process of waxing lyrical about this shot. That bloke reminds me a bit of my old Pommie dad, who wears a hat like that all the time, except in summer when he declines to match it up with his board shorts, long socks and sandals. It's a teriffic shot, looking over those grannies at the other grannies and grandad. You could probably crop the right side woman out and some of the bottom to maintain aspect ratio, but that's a trivial point. Really good, and with a great humour in it. BTW, the apples are just about the right colour.

Andrew

The apples ARE a tad too green, but if you hadn't mentioned it in the note, I probably would not have noticed, interesting multicultural looking crowd, I'm drawn to the suspicious stare of the man.
