What a location to be in just as a storm hit. I managed to capture my first ever lighting bolt on a long exposure (not on this shot). It was very windy but luckily we managed to get away before the rain came.
Ps - just in case anybody asks, the horizon isnt wonky. I think its a shadow cast by the heavy cloud on the sea.

darrasin (2860) 2006-09-28 13:28
Greetings Adam! Very dramatic capture here, hard not to come in and take a closer look. The long exposure really adds impact to this. Not only does it provide the interesting visual effect of the blurred frothy waves but it creates highlights that really give the image extra eye-attracting constrast. Nicely done and nicely composed!
picardo (2459) 2006-09-28 13:28

Very nice shot, fine effect from long exposure and contrast between white and greenish-blue. Good compo of rocks. Doesn't look very stormy but definitely ominous... Cheers - Vilius

IgorDeleze (585) 2006-09-28 13:55

Nice shot, great stormy sea and nice cliff, all in great colors !
kedardixit (71) 2006-09-28 14:00
Very nicely taken! I like the softening effect of the waves and the colour of sea which is merging with the sky. Cliff on the right side, provides perfect contrast and depth required for this image.. Keep it up! (But can you pl. tell us what are those tiny white spots on the central rock)??
imrek (4) 2006-09-28 14:35
you got a very magic atmosphere here, esp thanks to low shutter speed, great green sea colour and strong composition!!!
Didi (59738) 2006-09-28 14:41
Very nice work, very terrific indeed.
I love this place and I have good souvenirs from Cornwall.
There is some similitude with the French lands end allias the Pointe du Raz.

magnifique photo,l'atmospère capturée est dramatique,la longue exposition agrandi l'écume des vagues qui se fracassent sur les rochers et les teintes sont excellentes.

Cette photo est une merveille, Adam!

Hello Adam !!
This is an amazing work of patience mixed to frozen sensation because 30 minutes on the top of this rock with this weather I couldn't never forget !!
VERY, VERY beautiful greens/whites effects ( waves on rocks ) due to long exposure.
Stunning blue tones an wonderful details ( birds on the main rock )
It's a pity only for Horizont: did you use a top level CANON body with a.... sigma 2-500mm zoom ?!
..I'm joking of course. The far cloud shadows helps to give a very stormy picture !
Ciao e COMPLIMENTI !!

Yup- I agree with about the horizon. It's barely visible, but you can just make out the actual horizon. I wish I had access to similar landscape. I'd love to attempt some similar shots!
Truly an amazing capture Adam.

Excellent shot. The waves that rock the rocky mountains are great.
Danzi (2461) 2006-09-29 7:26
Fantastic shot Adam!
Your shot is really powerful! Lovely colours and tones of this beautiful rock near Cornwall. Superb view on the stormy sea and rock with the combination of wave and dark green-blue sky. The light is just fantastic.
I enjoy it a lot and thanks for sharing!

Your picture is perfect too.
Cormac (26563) 2006-09-29 11:29
I can honestly say that I've never seen a shot like this, a long exposure looking down on a dark and stormy scene. The white of the waves creates a kind of halo around the ilands and rocks, which is an amazing effect. The dark tones are great - very saturated colours and great mood. Excellent!

Simply magic ! Direct to my favorite list.

This is surely one of the most strinkingly beautiful image I have seen in quite a while.
Almost out of this world.
I like the sea and the sky merging together and the long opening effect on the waves breaking against the pillars, which are absolutly sharp.
You are talking about a strong wind, but it did not seems to have rock your tripod, must have been protected against the wind.
Any ND grad use here?

Great moody piece. i really like the depth coused by the distant islands, and feel that the overall composition is complete without anything excessive and very nicely proportioned.
cbrman (21665) 2006-09-30 9:46
Exellent d'avoir effectuer une si longue pose sur un paysage aussi grand ! L'effet sur les vagues est saissisant !
Bien vu !

I am voice-less Adam so it's perfect.
It's a landscape from nowhere or sci-fi movies.
I like it very much
guillaumejm (0) 2006-10-07 10:06
What a wonderfull picture. The long exposure time gives a magic affect on the see ith a great light. On an other hand, the birds are so sharp that's unbelievable. It's really a GREAT shot.

Adam this time exposure has its own mysterious effect in this scene. Gorgous lighting and wonderful misty sweeping waves along the shoreline. I gather the white dots on that rock are seagulls. Lovely scene!
Talia (242) 2006-10-24 13:58
Wow! This is amazing. I love what your camera can catch that the eye can not! Thanks so much for sharing this photo and I really hope you get paid well for what you do :)

Astonishing shot of a great dramatism. The long exposure has improved the aspect of the sea and the waves. Very good colors. I like it :P
