Taken yesterday at a dawn stop off en-route to see family in Somerset.
Last time I visited this bay the tide was high on a moody day. On this visit the conditions were the exact opposite. A pleasant sunrise and very low tide, revealing these gorgeous green algae covered boulders. I pointed the camera down to maximise the wonderful colour and used my wide angle lens to also include the gorgeous first light on the cliffs. Within minutes the light on the cliffs was too strong, throwing out the balance of the photograph and ending my early morning stop-off. Back to the car by 6.30am to continue my trip to Somerset!

Once again a quality of pictures rarely seen on TE. I can hardly imagine how it is possible to find such warm light and colours along the Dorset coast.
A favourite picture in its style.

This is a picture full of beauty and full of interesting details. At first the colours are really great and the stones in the foreground with their "hairstyles" are incredible! A really great picture which I like very much. One of the best nature pictures I ever saw! Thank you for showing!
Greetings from Germany!

Good morning Adam -
Excellent image! Exposure, DOF, and POV spot on the money. I like the mossy rocks and the sharpness throughout the image. The slow shutter speed and the water makes it look a bit unreal.
Thanks for sharing

The forground algae covered rocks are AWESOME! I have to wonder if you managed this shot from 2 different exposures merged into one shot? The darker tones at the shoreline really intirgue me Adam. I'd be REALLY interested to see what the original image looked like before the PP. Would you be willing to post the original as a workshop?
All the best!

Superb colour and detail Adam.
The image has such simple elements within it, but combined and at this quality it makes for a flawless landscape image.
Your understanding of getting the elements right before taking a shot is evident: time of day, composition, tides, east-west orientation etc

Great choice to point your camera down to the stones covered with green algaes. They look like rolls of yarn :O) The light on the rock is sure gorgeous and I like the effect of the long shutter speed. Beautiful composed shot!

Hello Adam. Very interesting photo. The green on colour on the rocks is incredible. The composition and the point of view are fantastic. And the exposition is very good too, of course. Good job.

Hi Adam ,i love the green fibrous weed growing on the rocks, it looks like peoples heads and i was going to say at a "rock concert" ....lol
seriosly though its a lovely view and you captured it well

Excellent work! One thing that I like about this is the contrast in colours between the cool blues and greens of the foreground and the warm colour of the headland. The green algae is incredible, and somehow really works well with the round rocks. Beautiful!

On reconnait immédiatement l'"Adam touch"!Ces galets couverts d'algues au premier plan sont une merveille.

Amazing light and motive.Stones in front looks like human heads with green hair.Ha,ha! Sorry I wrote this.It was first thought,on first fast look.It is great photo.Bravo!

Wow! a wonderful image. The green on the rocks is a delight and I love their roundedness. It is almost like you did an Andy Galsworthy and went around arranging the scene to perfection before you took the shot. But unless you are a ginat, that's not possible!

Looks like you're a regular early riser. I love the fine detail in the green-haired stones. IMO the cliff is already a bit too contrasty, overwhelming the softer tones in the algae, sky and clouds. Nevertheless another great shot.
Also a huge thank you for openly sharing the details about how your amazing images are created.

Superb composition,,the green moss, very vibrant are attractive and gives a good contrast and balance to the red mountain.
The movement of the waves are smothed by the long exposure.
I just received ND grad filter and tried it with the polariser on to increase the contrast of the clouds.
Do you have any experience with this and will you recommand it.Any drawback besides slowing down the speed?
Thanks in advance

Simply gorgeous Adam, wonderful colour and texture,

Very interesting composition with these hairy stones. Green on foreground, then blue for the sea, brown the cliffs and blue again the sky, excellent composition.
robiuk (10807) 2006-08-14 18:15
you pulled this one off wonderfully, Adam!
The thing I love here (and I find it amazing) is that even with the 2-sec exposure the water doesn't seem to be neither blurred nor 'milky', as it happens with moving tide/waves.
This one is a pure success and it goes straight into my favourites, too!

Amazing shot of this place! I love the foreground boulders covered in algae! It almost looks like they are growing hair...haha! Anyway, amazing capture of the rising sun with the beautiful colours reflecting on the distant cliffs! Great composition and amazing details! Great work, Adam!

Intresting photo, wonderful colors, very nice.
TheUnknown (277) 2006-08-16 13:00
Beautiful colours, especially on the moss. I also love the fine details and the texture of the water. The moss is so nice that I'm tempted to say that this photo could do without the brown mountain in the background. A cropped version with just the rocks and water looks more balanced to me. The mountain throws the shot off a bit.
timleahy (2195) 2006-09-05 18:37
It was so worth the effort! This is a wonderful maritime landscape with excellent sharpness and depth. The pattern of the algae formations on the bounders is remarkable.

Really beautiful. Well captured.
Talia (242) 2006-10-26 14:20
Wow! Incredible capture! I'm so blown away by this shot! 2 second shutter speed really softens the rocks and waves.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Nothing else to add...
marknunnerley (2780) 2006-11-07 5:34
Joe Cornish or what? No, save that, Adam Burton or what? Hope you don't mind the comparison but it is the excellent POV and DOF but most of all it's the right light. I chose this from one of many because the rocks looked like a huddle of Green headed men, some balding as well!
Orixas (458) 2007-09-16 14:26
Excellent, very sharp! Congratulations for this shot!

Excellent shot. Congratulations.

I love your composition with the green something on the stones - the stones remind me of heads with carefully combed hair, great colour that I would not expect to sea on the shore.

The workshop is very helpful and shows RAW before any editing so eveyone can see how much you had to edit. Thanks!
