Durham Knocker
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Taken at Durham Cathedral Co-Durham , this door knocker was used many years ago to provide sanctuary to those that were on the run from the law. The idea was you knocked on the door and were given sanctuary for a maximum of 37 days, after which you had the choice of voluntary exile or trial. |

Interesting history behind this knocker Tim.Thanks for the notes.
B&W suits this composition well because of the timeline of the subject.
I wonder where they had a choice for voluntary exile? :-)

Beautiful details in the photo and notes. Straight on point of view makes you shudder for the fact that the same straight on encounter with the knocker at the present time is probably the same straight on exposure presented to those who were on the run from the law a long time ago. No wonder the eyes of the knocker is hollow ... they have witnessed so many harrowing events in the past :-). Black and white adds value to the history of this knocker. Good job!
Wow! This one brings back fond memories of one of my all-time favourite architectural masterpieces. Other than that, good perspective, and good choice with black and white. Thanks for sharing this one.
