Photographer’s Note
Authorised Graffiti Zone?
Spotted on a simple walkabout around Manchester a few weeks ago. This photo was a bit of a turning point for me... squatting down on the floor I was twisting and tilting the camera to get the right angle when I suddenly realised that I could visualise how the photo would come out and what my final version would be like.
I can't honestly describe the feeling... it was almost a sort of enlightenment in its own little way. But the tilt is "right" and the result is exactly what I aimed for. I'm happy with this photo.

Bonsoir Lewis
j'aime beaucoup cette photo. Beau POV et inscription surprenante ! Le n&b va très bien et le léger tilt également. Bien composé

hi lewis, really like your composition here, the tilt is very effective, a good b&w conversion, just a pity theres no actual graffiti !!

Lewis,
A great urban shot. I love the very dark feeling and the wet concrete really makes for an excellent image.
Cheers

I agree the tilt worked well. The writing on the ground is interesting in an ironic sort of way.

Good composition and good conversion to B&W, and you've done well to craft a shot out of the scene.
I know what you mean about the visualisation - someone called it "an inner 'Ahh'", when you just know it's a good photograph.
I struggle to find inspiration in UK cities, so well done!
Cheers

excellent compo focusing on the foreground graffiti. It makes the shot! The funniest thing of all is there are almost no graffiti in this authorized graffiti area...As if graffiti could only live or survive when illegal! haha!

Hi Lewis! Great perspective and it works well in black & white. The shot looks like an album cover too. Best Regards, Doug

How could I have missed this shot?! Its so beautiful. I love the dark b/w heavyness of this photo. Superb DOF. But, I always try and see improvements and for me this would be utterly perfect if you had someone walking down on the other descending ramp right in the denter so as to be against that bright surface. But dont mind me, I looked at Koudelka's stark shots from the Black Triangle and thought the same:) And who am I next to Kouelka?
