Photographer’s Note

The winter sun slices through the remnants of the morning mist in the Outwoods - a part of the ancient Charnwood Forest. These woods along with Jubilee Wood and the Beacon Hill Country Park are within walking distance of my home in Loughborough - I have been walking there for 27 years and love the place very dearly. Most of Charnwood Forest now forms the eastern edge of the New National Forest - Leicesteshire was (and maybe still is) one of the least forested areas of the UK although in Roman times little remains of the ancient Britons of this area because they were mostly forest dwellers.

Much of the forest is now farmland and there are a number of horse studs in the area.
