Another shot taken at dawn in Hayling Island, Hampshire. As before this one was captured as the wave dragged back into the sea. The small white dot in the sky is the moon - do you think its a distraction to the image or not? I dont like cloning things unless I have to, but if you feel its a distraction then I will zap it out of the image.

Superb colors and long exposure giving a nice effect on the water.
About the moon, it could have been interesting to have it just above the post?
Murmeli (2037) 2006-02-12 7:41
Comme d'habitude, tes photos sont d'une force et d'intensité époustouflante !!

Very dynamic and well composed image. Usually I'd suggest to clone out the airplane-trails but somehow it is woking with the rest of the image. Thanks for sharing. It is a gorgeous photo.

What else to say???
Just a phantastic shot.
And the moon is fine, good decision not to clone, it looks more authentically this way.
Well done and if possible 20 smiles...

really good coloures, exposure and perspective, i like the structure with the pole!
When you start playing with things i would suggest you crop the image slighty different: take away a third of the sky, and you will keep the right lines and focus even a bit on them.
AthaPan (0) 2006-02-12 8:10
I do not agree with Loeppi,
you managed it well in my opinion.
Just a short question as I play also too with long exposures; what was the exposure? I guess something about 2 or 3 seconds?
greg (2835) 2006-02-12 10:04
My first instinct was to say to leave the moon, but it's really not in the best place, and draws a lot of attention. Maybe if it had been over on the right somewhere...
Anyway, I like your sea picture very much. I've seen this effect, but never done quite like this, on the withdrawal of a wave. Really nice.

Wow! Wonderful effect! Beautiful colors and frame! Great work!
Cormac (26565) 2006-02-12 10:55
This photo has huge appeal and huge impact. I really jumps out of the frame at me when I see it. This is probably due to the intense colours, and also the strong, graphic composition, with the streaking lines of the surf, and the black posts. I like the presence of the moon. Although it is small, the moon is a powerful symbol and can exert an influence on a photo out of proportion to it's size. The only distraction to the purity of the scene is the vertical lines caused by jet con-trails.
Great idea, and well executed!

This picture is incredible. I think the moon looks kind of strange and personnally I think I would have preferred to take it off. But the picture is nevertheless beautiful.

A strong feeling of the movement in this Adam. I think the movement is underlined by the very static structure in the right side. Splendid light handling as usual.
The moon - well - it adds something just by being the moon, doesn´t it, but on the other hand it is basically a bright spot in the background and we all know about those, don´t we?
lucinka (9976) 2006-02-12 12:26
Adam, this is perfectly managed shore sunset photo. You've really inspired me to go to Dutch beach and shoot something similar. I've always thought that Dutch coast is bit boring for sunset photos, but I see you can make interesting too. Great work as always. L.

excellent flowing effect

Outstanding work. Superb colors and composition. I like the use of lines produced by retreating water. The end result looks both peaceful and dynamic at the same time.

I'm not usually a big fan of these type of shots, but this is just nothing short of spectactular. Love the shutter speed effect of the washed up water and the colours in the sky.

Wow, what an amazing photo. The colours are stunning and so vibrant. The way you were able to capture the movement of the water is awesome. Even the moon is visible, great addition. Well, all I can say is FANTASTIC shot and fantastic work..I LOVE IT!
Wahclellaspirit (4089) 2006-02-13 2:31
The image is a little fast for my taste, however the colors are fantastic. I have taken this large spot of noise out of many scenes I have taken, it is rather bright and detracts your eye as it is the brightest spot in the image.
skomy (124) 2006-02-13 7:30
Fantastic shot, exposure time made a nice effect there!
rosaline (0) 2006-02-15 5:18
Good shot and the effect of the receding water leaves a good pattern. Are the colours natural or did you add some saturation? The pinkish/reddish tone seems quite strong to me.
The moon looks OK to me and is not intrusive. Would be interesting to know what exposure setting you used. The amount of sky in the composition seems ok as the pattern and colour of the clouds add greatly to the photo.
Well done overall, with the blurred water adding particular impact to the composition.

wow!!! amazing colours and effects
danielswalsh (13599) 2006-03-09 21:26
Two words sum this one up easily Adam... "Simply Awesome".
I imagine you had the waves in the water for this one? I found your exposure of 1.6 seconds at F/16- did you make use of a filter to control any bright highlights in the sky?
Cheers, and keep up the great work!
(P.S.- Personally- I'd clone out the moon)
anaines (827) 2006-03-16 13:56
Wooow! All your work is amazing. This shot is fantastic. You are really an artist!

I was looking through your pictures and I really am facinated! I don't know where to begin! So amazingly many beautiful pictures. Real pro-images. This one is absoulutely one of them. But I would clone out the moon yes. Great colors!
banyanman (7789) 2006-07-10 8:19
Wow, this is a very impressive image, Adam. Like I said in a previous critique, I would never have thought Hayling Island would provide such amazing opportunities for photography - it just shows you that a skilled photographer can make something out of almost any place on this planet. Technically everything is just about perfect with this image. Personally I'd clone out the moon. If it was bigger and to the right I would have left it in. Cheers . . . David
arnoud1976 (1191) 2006-07-19 5:16
wow, simply amazing capture. the moon for sure does NOT bother me at all, rather another poiunt of interest in the image. personally i like the comp and pov. colors are smooth and subtle. top shot. great work!
filidor (56) 2006-12-19 1:58
Very impressive photo, as almost all from Your folio. The Timecather experience is great idea!
vanmidd (148) 2006-12-26 22:55
If it was bigger I would say keep it, but I think it's distracting. zap baby zap. (the rest of the photo is great, love your long-exposure stuff. cheers
borax (1732) 2007-05-13 11:49
I like long time exposure and I definitively like this one. But maybe colors are a little bit over saturated. The moon is too present. Better with less luminosity.
coco (30439) 2009-11-09 5:28
Impressive work with the light and the exposure. The composition is also good, but the work with the light is main element of the photo.
gmg (4202) 2010-02-14 14:19
This is a superb shot, very well done on every point of view: composition, light balance, colours and hues

j'adore les couleurs et la composition sont très réussi.
