Wakehurst Winter Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a picture from the bridge across the Wetland Conservation area at Wakehurst Place. For those not familiar with Wakehurst is part of the lands managed by the Royal Botanical society based at Kew Gardens in London. And for those not familiar with the Royal Botanical Society, its aim in life is to improve the worlds environment through the study of the plant and fungal kingdom - though I don't think they will be interested in that little bit of fungus growing between your toes (you know who you are).

Though I have lived in and around London for many years and I am familiar with Kew Gardens (excellent place), I had never been to Wakehurst. Dependent upon the time of year it can be a great place to visit with many opportunities to partake of the fresh are and great scenery.

Congratulations for this one. There is a confusion between the sun rays and/or the mist at the background so the silhouettes looks-like phantoms or lost ghosts.

Nice work--the composition is great, the intense yellow is exceptional, and as has been said before, the combination of the light and the mist lends an eerie aspect to the silhouettes. Nice work taking straight into the sun, I've had a hard time working into such strong light.

David, you have a wonderful golden colour and I love the streams of sunlight filtering through the trees. I like the human element with the people in the centre of the frame.
