Photographer’s Note
I thought I would do a short series of alternating shots of York and New York at night, this is the first, a shot of the river embankment at York.
From the Net.
The Roman name for York was Eboracum and was based on a native British name for the ancient site.
It is thought the name was an Ancient British personal name and suggests that the site was founded by someone called Eburos.
An another view holds that the name is based on the Ancient British word Eburos meaning Yew, a sacred Celtic tree from which the personal name Eburos comes from.
There was a Gaulish tribe called the Eburorovices, who were the ‘Warriors of the Yew Tree’.

I'd love to see the contrast between both cities. Good exposure. I like the reflections of the iron fence bars. Well done.

Hi Setphen,
Excelent point of view and perspective in a difficult shot near night. Nice contrast between one side and the other. Good light and water reflections. Fine enquadrement of the river. Possible the use of a noise filter could improve the sky. Well seen and well done. Congratulations and have a nice week.

Great idea for a series - the York/New York comparision should be very interesting. This is a very well composed night shot, with the river, the embankment, and the buildings all taking equal space. The lighting is just right as well. Great work!

Hi Stephen,
I really like the lighting in this photo, the reflections in the water and just enough light on the embankment to bring out the detail.
