Photographer's Note

This view of the central tower of Salisbury Cathedral was taken from the cloisters below.

Salisbury's beautifully proportioned stone spire is the tallest in England at 404ft and crowns one of Europe's most important gothic buildings. Unlike most cathedrals, it was built entirely to the original design (rather than having bits added later in a style fashionable in the day) and is therefore the best example of the Early English style of Gothic.

Being such a graceful church, it is most often photographed from a distance. I thought this shot of the tower from the cloisters might offer a more unusual view of the church.
