Photographer’s Note
This is known as Bat's Head to the west of Durdle Door in Dorset. You can just see in the middle of the picture at the bottom of the chalk cliff, there is a 'mousehole', the start of an arch carved out by the waves of the sea.
This picture was taken a long time ago when I was using my Pentax P30 camera. It is scanned from a print using the Epson Stylus CX3200.
I straigtened it in Picasa2 and sharpened which resulted in noise to the sky, so ran through NeatImage. In doing so, it 'smoothed' out the sea a bit, but I think the overall effect made it worthwhile.
Technical details not available.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hello,
Un joli paysage et de vagues biens figées.
Les nuages qui semblent surgir de la falaise sont superbes.
Bravo

Nice shot of a beautiful beach but I could recognise the effects of neat image immediately! Maybe you could have just neatimaged the sky without affecting the beach, this would maybe work better. there seems little point in sharpening if you then smoth it all out. just an idea
cheers, David

Nice deep color and the shoreline leading into the scene is very well done.

Lovely composition and colours. I think the scan has come out quite well and the neatimage has created an interesting effect on the breaking waves, if not ideal. Good advice from bboss.

Very nice capture Vicky, good timing on the wave and clean composition. I would raise levels a little just to brighten the image and give it more contrast boast. Nice work Steve.

It's so nice! - and it reminds me on the coast of the Normandie in France on the other side of the channel. It looks so amazingly similar.

Hi Vicky
Great cliff. Beautiful colours of the water and sky. And above all I like the wave on the shore.
Greetings

Its a well balanced composition with good colours but for me the Neat Image effect is over the top and has smoothed it to much. You might also have tried to get just a touch more detail in the dark areas on top of the cliffs

I lived in Poole until I was 3 years old and I have a few hazy memories of places like this. In all your pictures you show a mastery of exposure. The movement of the waves gives a really nice dreamy quality. The composition is spot on, but more importantly I feel like I am standing on the beach.
One thing I have been trying with my 350D is to shoot in RAW and underexpose by 1 stop (I did it by mistake and found it useful). It can be a pain to always expose exactly right on the highlights of the scene and the autoexposure can go a bit screwy. So underexposing gives a enough headroom, nearly always, to adjust the exposure in software (I use Pixmantec RAW Shooter - there is a freeware version that is worth a try) without blowing out the sky. And the shadow and highlight adjustments I find really useful. It can make skies so much more interesting. Just something I am experimenting with at the moment.
