House in the Mist Photo

Photographer’s Note

Yes- I know you are thinking this is a lot like Danby1's picture or another words steven my competitive boyfriend... we both took a picture of this slightly diffrent tho, and he wanted to post it, as did I so I am leaving it to you guys to tell us who's is best. I like the lay out of this, I like the trees and the little white house among the strong mist, it's very over powering, especially if you are there and surounded by the high hills, but when they are coverd in mist it lets off a very eerie feeling... I hope you enjoy comments and critiques welcome!!

This was taken at Ullswater on our firs day, this was one of my first shots of the trip and I quite like it!

Hi Ashley, that your shot is really amazing!
the composition is perfect, and i like that touch of white on the middle of a green field and a dramatic cloudy sky!
excellent colors, light and a good focus.

Hi Ashley,
I am very familiar with Cumbria and the eerie effects this mist can produce when the clouds are low over the hills. It's creepy, but exciting at the same time! The colours are excellent and the white house looks like it's about to be swallowed up! Good details in the trees and the image is nice and sharp and it's well composed :-) Best wishes, Vicky

I like the misty feeling and the rich colors. Nice amount of foreground in proportion the upper part. I would like a bit more sharpening after resize and the house moved a bit to the left.

Great landscape. I like the fog for all the atmoshpere it gives the photo. I sure would like to live there.

I can't believe you've now got us taking sides! I'm sorry to say, I prefer Steve's version of this shot for the following 2 reasons. 1) I prefer Steve's lead-in with the diagonal stone wall rather than this 'straight' composition. 2) Steve's picture is sharper, this gives an overall brighter and more striking effect. This is still a good shot, but you did ask! Saying that, I still have your shot of the little church in my favourites list!

Bonjour,
même si elle apparait surmontée de brouillard, cette maison me séduit, l'endroit où elle est implantée, au milieu de cette verdure et près des ces monts, doit lui conférer des vues splendides et une tranquilité peu commune.
Jolies teintes vertes bien saturées mais pas trop.
Parfait cadrage.

I like the composition with the U shape of the fells and the mist filling in the gap. Despite the conditions the colours are well saturated and there is plenty of detail on display. Well done. Don't ask me to choose.

nice shot ashley, the white house and the mist are very nice as i know ;) i think the house off centered would be nicer! also is the frame brown? i think black would be better! thanks for sharing

Nicely done - I like the rich colours and the way the misty backdrop brings out the rocky hill with the trees behind the house. It's moody - eerie, as you say, and a little lonely too perhaps.

that is really a beautiful picture!
I like the simmetry of the composition and the contrast between the house and the sorrounding green.
Beautiful the foggy day, it leaves your mind free to imagine the landscape behind the house!
