Photographer’s Note
The men you will see in front of Buckingham Palace (and other locations) are not just ceremonial guards but also serving Soldiers. While upholding the traditions of the past, they also perform duties throughout the world as professional soldiers and are known as some of the most elite and skilled soldiers in the British Army.
This is why Changes may occur in the guard change as the soldiers are required for operational duties.
This guard is a member of the Scots Regiment, distinguishable by the lack of a plume on the bearskin cap, and the 3 buttons at the top of the red tunic.
I hope you like the photo!

Great shot Dan! The splash of red really stands out against the grey of the building, and the positioning in the lower corner is good. The horizontal lines on the building add a great texture to this, as does the window. The whole arrangement in the frame is very pleasing to the eye. Great work!

Hey Dan,
Buckingham Palace... I tought I was in our nation's capital, Ottawa ;-0
Good image, there's a great composition between the apparent symetry od all the lines in the image. The red of the uniform makes for good contrast also. The use of the sépia colors works well with the enviroment.
Nice work.
So did you get him to talk? ;-)

Excellent job on this one. There must be tons of pictures featuring these poor guards and still, the well thought composition makes this image interesting. The proportions are just right and a red spot fits always well into a gray picture. There is something about it that makes it look old, either is the resolution low or the noise high... Have you done anything in this regard? At first I thought it was a scanned image.

This is a very interesting photo, despite the potential for it to be very run-of-the-mill. I love the colouring, and appreciate what you've done with the composition. Nice work!

Hi Dan,
Nice framing, good idea to desaturate the rest of the picture and leave the soldier in colour, it provides a nice contrast. I like the graininess,

Hi Dan,
From the thumpnail, I was thinking that it is a toy-soldier. Very nice composition with excellent colour contrast and lighting. Very well done!

Hi Dan,
A classic shot of this traditional scene. I like the muted beige and brown hues here blending with the stark red of the uniform. The play of light and shadow on the palace exterior is also enhancing. The framing and cropping are superbly executed, and I especially like the large lamp and window detail. No two shots of this scene are the same and this one is superb. All the best.

Great image! And love the caption, so true indeed! Good use of sepia tones versus the red jacket, an appropriate emphasis!
