Photographer’s Note
The 101st post is another from the Back library, too cold round here for these beasties this time of the year. Taken back at the end of June on a sunnier day. I am very surprised when reviewing the files that this one hasnt been posted before.
This pair of common Blue Damselflies (Enallagma cyathigerum) are in the wheeled mating position. they will then open out into tandom and fly off to lay the resulting eggs into the weed floating on or near the surface of the water. even to the point of ducking her under the water.
Taken with the Sony F707, ISO 100 , spot metred F5.6 @ 1/500sec in macro mode.
PS7 adjustments open and crop 21 X 21 cm @ 600dpi
saturation +10 lightness -3
Brightness -3 contrast +8
USM 131% X1.9px Rad. X threshold 1.
save to print file then resize to 800px @72dpi and use save to web to save file 197K to TE posting file.

An excellent capture. The square format works very well. The damselflies are sharp and their mating position forms a beautiful composition.
I often find that a good way of appreciating the strengths and weaknesses of a composition is to use the Find Edges filter in Elements. I am going to take the liberty of posting the result of applying this filter to this photograph as a WS. It not only brings out the strengths of the composition but, IMO, is beautiful in itself.

Lush green leaves and mating damselflies spell SUMMER. I want some! Great catch, everything neat and tidy and within DOF range.

The mating rituals of the damselflies are rarely seen in such stunning detail. This is a remarkable capture Rob.Coupled with informative notes, this gives us a visual appreciation of some of nature's hidden spectacles. The blue really stands out,as does the wing detail.
