Photographer’s Note
Ok, so there are plenty of pictures of London showing the glossy facade - St Pauls Cathedral, the Millenium Wheel, Tower of London; but behind the scenes there are the roads, buildings and other amenities which characterise where the real londoners work. No amount of great sunsets can hide the fact that once outside of the centre of any major city the landscape becomes much less pretty and interesting. Poplar is an area just to the north of Canary Wharf (the new financial district in the east of London). Over time it has been populated by many immigrant communities and still remains so to this day. The fact that the foreground is nearly black and white is no trick of photoshop - it really is like that, a grim landscape with little to brighten things up.

This is the best shot I've seen in days. Great colors. Awesome sharpness. Nothing to comment on. Just triple A!

The sunset is amazing ,David
Its fire in hell with all this pollution and it’s a nice detail hereon the left ( the two chimneys)
Your POV is very good here
Its funny how a note can change a whole picture

Great colours and pinpoint sharpness. The only thing I would have tried to improve on, is the buildings on the left have an orange cast to them, whereas the ones on the right don't. If those buildings, especially the sides facing the camera were as monotone as the foreground and buildings on the right, it would have really brought the picture together.

oh WOW,
I am grossly unqualified to comment on a picture of this quality. I would just stop with saying that this one takes my breath away.
One of my most favourite shots on TE

Hi David,
Wow, what an excellent picture, I guess that satelite areas throughout the world look pretty much the same. Even if the area is grim, the amazing sky that you have captured really brightens it up.

What a beautiful sky over London. It is well composed and the colours and details are superb. Great POV and I love how the light is shining on the buildings on the left giving them a golden glow, whereas where the sun isn't shining on those on the right, and they are in darkness.
Well done David, and thank you for sharing.

Hey David, spotted this on the homepage and glad I did, its a great capture! I thin kyou have done very well to show us the less glossy side of london, but I think it is still beautiful, especially with this sky you have captured.
Saying that though if you had captured this same scene with a dark gloomy sky it woudl not be the same story, so your timing was spot on!
Well done : )

Curious, I made once a shot where sun rised just over the clouds 'Kodaikanal above the clouds' and a lot where amazed, thinking evn that I used a filter, and my saturation was less then here, the effect is nice in the sky but a bit out of balance I got the impression, the sat+ in the sky makes it almost like 2 pictures in one, so contrasted, still I know such a sky is possible and you showed it here very explicit.

It is like a scene from Terminator. Great blast will sweep away the suburbs!
This is a combination we don't see often, because in those boring places many don't seek for opportunity to get a good photo.

Hello David. This photo is very interesting and your comment too. Really is other point of view of London. Technically, the photo is very good. The light and the exposition are prefect, and the photo is ver sharp. Good job and a good informative note.
