I wonder if you have ever heard of or seen a panopticon before.
This is one such structure, looking from the inside out.
It is sometimes called 'The Atom', as it has that sort of shape. It is a round structure, with many peep holes through which you can see different aspects of the landscape around my home village.
If you look at my workshop. you will see the panopticon in its entirety.
When I took the photograph, the panopticon was filled with water. It had been raining hard! I don't think the designers had factored in the fact that the upper holes let in water but the lower holes face up-hill and prevent the water from escaping!
Their mistake creates a great opportunity for an unusual photograph!
My warm regards, Bev :-)

Good afternoon Beverley,
I remember the previous posts of the "Panopticon", and yet - another good addition to the series.
View through was well managed, perfect round window and its full reflection upon the muddy brown color water.
On the far side there is a diagonally posted rocks fence (at least that's how it looks from this side) gave nice dividing line from the slope to the hills beyond.
My best regards,

I'm not quite sure if I fully understand the purpose and meaning of this panoptikon, except that it gave you the chance for an original and rather amusing photo. From the outside it makes me think of a strangely placed artistic installation, but it also reminds me of the cold war bunkers still seen everywhere in Albania. But you never had a xenophobic regime waiting for an invading enemy in Lancashire, did you? ;-)

I had heard of the word, but didn't actually know what it was. This photo gives an excellent impression of the place. I like to see the large round entrance also reflected in the calmly moving water. The landscape in the background looks pleasant too in this fine sunlight.

This is so surreal that I had to add it to my favourites. Whether this water-flood was intentional or not, it is certainly the decisive element, which makes it unique. The result is really stunning.

What an unusual artwork! And indeed all the water making reflections gave you a good opportunity for a special photo. WS shows that it was build on beautiful landscape, obviously on purpose. So WS would in my opinion be worth of a main upload too.

I did see this kind of constructions before but didn’t now it is called a panopticon.
An intriguing possibility for a lot of surprising combination especial with the reflecting possibilities of the water.

I remember the panopticon from older pictures, it's great to see it again in another surprising and attractive composition. I like very much the vibrant graphics, textures and colours, the intriguing play of perspectives and the way you supported and at the same time challenged symmetry. Beautiful work, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,

la foto č bella e originale, ma occorre guardare la foto del ws per capire di cosa si tratta.
Eccellente colpo, ottima inquadratura.

I just knew a panopticon as a kind of prison architecture, so this is new to me. Strange...
Thanks for sharing

For me it looks like a flying saucer! The workshop is very useful to understand what it is, but this main photo is even greater, a very creative image to show it! The round shape of these "doors" or "windows" make the image very attractive! Beautiful composition! Well done!

Hello Bev, I haven't heard about the panopticon either. I like the view of this sculpture (?) in WS. It could be also the main upload,. But here when it is filled with water it gave additional photo opportunities. Very original composition. Well seen and superbly realized.
Kind regards MAlgo

Your note is great and I would agree with your speculation - the designers may not have thought too hard about the impact of water, and maybe just as well - it has led to this fabulous photograph. The highlight is very much the way the path seems to lead in to a watery pool. Great work, thanks, Iain.

Seeing the picture in the workshop, my first idea was also that it looked like some kind of bunker.
In any case it's a very remarkable installation in the landscape and you present us two very attractive pictures of it. I like the reflection of the sky in the water forming two eyes placed vertically.
I cannot imagine that the designer didn't think at the fact that water would remain inside. Something like that would be a very big blame.
Best regards, Paul
