Photographer’s Note
Still continuing the waterways series. Gloucester docks are quite interesting. They retained commercial traffic until quite recently, in fact I think there's still some. The Gloucester canal is wide enough to be commercially viable, it by-passes some otherwise dificult waters on the river Seven. The wharves and wharehouses are protected buildings, and mostly they'd been adopted for recreational purposes even when this shot was taken in 1980, though, as is event from the barges in the foreground, there was still some commercial activity mixed in.

There is nothing like some commecial activity to keeps old industrial areas interesting. As soon as they are converted into 100% recreational the atmosphere tend to evaporate.
The angular zigzag lines of the barges mixes well with the shapes of the old warehouses, the colours fits each other too, only the white "recreational boats" sticks out a bit.
Nice soft evening (morning?) light.

Hi Richard
I may try a ws. There is a yellow /green colour cast in the sky. Apart from that, good sharpness & composition, with excellent reflections. Well done!

Surprising that this shot was taken so long ago - I like the colours and lighting.

Quite an impressive archive you have to pull from, Richard. Besides the obvious compositional merits of this photo, including the reflections and good placement of foreground details, I enjoy a lot the darkish atmosphere and low light. Very pleasant scene from the revived harbor area.

hello richad, here i find the "oldness" of the pic particulrly useful - it makes an interesting effect of "oversharpened" objects with extremely strong colours; and i find it really very good; i think personally its one of my favorites of yours
