During a rather wet but very enjoyable TE meeting in Buxton (Peak District) we met this 'lady' in Tissington.
Tissington is a very quaint old village near to Ashbourne. The village has been the home of the FitzHerbert family for over 400 years. Some of the members of the TE group visited Tissington Hall which is the splendid Jacobean residence of the FitzHerbert family. The rest of us walked around the village in the rain. It was celebrating its annual 'well dressing' event (shown in WS). The wells of Derbyshire are decorated with flowers and other materials as a way of giving thanks to God for the gift of water. However, the origins of the festival are probably pagan.
Tissington largely escaped the plague of the 17th century by quarantining themselves in the village. The plague, brought from London, decimated many local villages such as Eyam.
The TE meeting was also attended by willperrett, mjw364, royaldevon, lenoland, Tyro, CLODO and Tigerlily. They were wonderful company so the poor weather didn't matter much.

Nice to see another image from the Buxton trip, so different from Will's "red collage" approach but equally interesting.
Someone put a lot of effort into making this lady look as elegant as she is. Just add a camera and, indeed, she would be ready to join TE... ;-)
Sometimes it is worth walking in the rain in search of subjects like this. The light is perfect for this kind of shot.
Enjoy the weekend

Hello Ann - Isn't Derbyshire a wonderful county? I spent 3 happy years there as a student and loved to ramble through the villages and dales. I'm envious of your TE meeting and having just read your email hope that we can make a plan for September.
This lady reminds me of Hilda Ogden (Coronation Street about a million years ago!) It's the floral pinny and marigolds that does it ;)
A fun shot.

Hello Ann Jackman,
A friend of Worzel Gummage perhaps:-) An excellent capture with very good colours and detail despite the cloudy weather.

Yes, I remember her well, and got a few of her myself, as you would. Probably one of the more interesting inhabitants of Tissington! A very nice formal portrait: she obviously knew you were taking her picture judging by the eye-contact!

wonderful this! Very Worzle Gummidge and obviously a friend of Aunt Sally (am I sad or what?). A superbly original post this and one that has brightened what is a wet day here. Excellent!
Enjoy the weekend - B.

A beautiful portrait shot with wonderful colour, light and superb detail.
It's a pity that I didn't meet her, but it's a great pleasure to see you, :-).

This is a fun scarecrow photo. And what a scarecrow ! Quite a pretty young lady ! I find it interesting that this one has a complete face and has been dressed as a human. Nice depth of field to make it stand out and give context to your picture. A cute portrait, nicely framed and captured.
Have a nice weekend.

A click for a great English tradition - and it's a good photo too, and well-dressings must be a big part of the attraction here. I like the way you have included the colourful details with a picture from flower petals, leaves and other natural materials with a religious theme. Another superb piece of work and I really enjoyed reading the story line, i think a lot of works gone into this you are becoming a master in your chosen subject. As for the Charming Lady, she's always most welcomed to be a member! A fine infor capture, tfs

Oh, if ever a person deserved to be on Coronation Street, this is the one! Or is it Mrs. Overall from Victoria Wood?
A great capture, using shallow dof very effectively. The colours are so good, especially when you consider the poor light that we endured!
Have a great Sunday,

Just back home with sun and 29°C!Summer is really there in South West of France!
My proposal for this meeting was street photography, and you succeeded by taking this new member, courageous under the rain.
Thank you for hosting a frenchy during these 2 wet English days

And I thought that the TE Terms of Service forbade the posting of "selfies". Hee, hee.
Despite what was miserable wet weather and pretty poor light, you have caught this "lady" extremely well with fabulous detail and sharpness throughout her very well dressed frame. I just love those glasses perched on her little bulbous nose as she stares slightly disapprovingly right down the barrel of your lens.
Lovely vibrant colours and perfect exposure with a nicely out of focus background.
A fine memory of a wonderful few days in Derbyshire - despite the weather!

I agree! I think we should invite her along to the next TE meet! The fudge from the shop down the road was pretty good... maybe she can bring some along!
TFS this memory.

What a funny subject and great post from your great TE meeting! Really nice one:) Taken with the excellent light control and superb level of detail to get a good image. TFS!

'Well dressed' certainly applies to this mannequin with nice colorful clothing instead of rags, roses on top, with a stone wall backdrop.
I doubt if she will scare away birds though.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Ann. At this straw doll I would not be passed by without taking a picture. The doll is a true feast for the eyes. My compliments for this humorous photo.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

It must be a fantastic occasion to visit this place. The lady is just perfect and so well made. I love the angry expression and the pose. And the roses of her hat are really something:)! Seems you had a very nice meeting, I'm going to see the other photos!
