"The water is wide, I can't cross over
And neither have, I wings to fly
Give me a boat, that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I"
The lyric from an old English folk song that supposedly dates from the 1600's, made modern day famous by Pete Seeger, Karla Bonoff and lately James Taylor, although U2's Van Diemen's Land on the album Rattle & Hum uses a variation on the melody too. (Interestingly this song has its own page on Wikipedia).
The wide water here is the flooded River Arun at Pulborough in West Sussex, England.

This looks almost like a painting from an era gone by. Beautiful brown and golden tones with a special light. Great layering in the landscape and the dry trees in the foreground make a good introduction to the rest of the scene. Looks like a peaceful place.

Like the layers you have created in this photo starting with the water till the green rolling hills at the top. The Light and shadow play on the land and water is a real beauty and is very well captured. Thanks for sharing a very good photo.

I like this one a lot. The multilayered plan creates nice depth and the subtle colors make this photo resemble some romantic painting. Very good DOF with the strongest focus on the first row of bushes. The delicate light emphasizes the character of the image.
Thanks for sharing

tra le varie foto scattate a questo soggetto a mio parere questa è la più bella per la successione dei piani e delle diverse particolarità deglòi stessi.
Atraordinari i colori e la composizione.
Ciao e buona settimana

This is your first photograph of the floods that really brings home the dark devastation. The colours and the light have an ominous glow, threatening worse to come.
I like how you have included a double dose of water, in the f/g, which accentuates its presence, makes it more than a pretty feature!
The horizontal layers carry the viewers relentlessly across the waterlogged, ominous landscape.
Hope things improve soon.
Weather forecast isn't great!

A beautiful view with very harmonic colours, like a painting coming alive. Looks like an awful amount of water here.

Fantastici i colori di questo paesaggio! Molto belle le variazioni cromatiche della vegetazione oltre il fiume distribuite in tre fasce orizzontali, belli anche gli arbusti in primo piano fra le due lingue d'acqua!
Migliori saluti, Nino.

Light and colours are sublime in this most appealing composition. I like the layering effect and the use of the foreground trees to give the scene depth. Will there be no end to this terrible weather?

The winter landscape in UK is very attractive, from pro like you, of course. The poem you include is also very nice.
Enjoy your week.

bella la composizione, è senza dubbio merito della splendida luce, ma ci vuole un eccellente fotografo per riprendere il tutto in questo modo.

Hello Brian - I have just commented on Stephen's shot of this self same river ... a different era and very different weather conditions! This shot has lovely layered details each one adding a contrast of colour, texture and light. You chose an excellent vantage point here. Warm regards Rosemary

I like how the light seem to be center and shinning through the cloud onto the lake, making glow with warm earth tone, it also seem like it had just rain and the current still strong and the water still carried lot of soil content. Beautiful semi panoramic composition to give the feeling of wide open and sweeping view.

I like very much this special Winter mood so well collected here, colours and light are talking about cold months, and fresh air...Your composition in stripes and the use of river to add light and contrasts are very good too...

last night I have seen on BBC a reportage from the flooded areas I really was not aware how intense it has been. It looks very photogenic though. I see no traces of civilization here, amazing if one keeps in mind that it is a quite industrialized country.
Great composition with multiple horizontal layers, especially the flooded trees/bushes add a nice touch in the foreground.
The light is extraordinary too, feeling a bit autumnal.

i love the layers of trees across the water, they merge very nicely into one another. the colours are superb and very complimentary. i especially like the little hint of light in the sky just visible below the clouds.
