The waters have receded a little but The White Hart at Stopham Bridge in West Sussex, is now counting the cost of the recent storms and torrential rain which has caused so much havoc in southern England. The River Arun here normally flows peacefully under the ancient bridge which is on the right of this image, but breached the lower car park wall and flooded the Pub and Restaurant. When I visited I was surprised to see fish swimming in the new Car Park Lake, which is to the right of the blue Pub sign.

Good Morning Brian,
It would seem that the rain has stopped ... not up here but, fortunately, we haven't experienced the flooding that has been so prevalent in the south.
This is the calm after the monsoon!
The water, although muddy, has captured lovely reflections of the desolate inn. Without knowing the area, it looks like a natural lake that is retained by the wall
I can see road blocks.
Was that the limit of the water level?
It must have been devastating for the owners ... and the local people!
Despite the subject implications, this is a very well composed shot that is sharp and interesting.
Have a great day,

Interesting and attractive place!
Very beautiful and pleasant-looking picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, vertical format, chosen pov and composition with that lovely reflection on the water surface are all excellent and I really enjoyed them!
TFS - congrats,

It looks very attractive this typical English pub in its riverside location and is no doubt very busy during the season. The rich red tones captured under the winter sun look superb against the trees in this carefully exposed composition. Let's hope the insurers pull their fingers out and it is able to return to business in short order. I wish you a pleasant and rain free Sunday.
trevormoffiet (3112) 2014-01-19 2:13
This image is nicely balanced in colour and form in this vertical format. The white Hart and its hazy reflection in the brown flood waters look quite splendid in the golden light.
It must be hard for the owners to realise that there will probably be more floods in future years.

Hello Brian. A beautiful photo with fantastic colors and light. In addition, very nice reflection. Such landscapes are ideal for photographers and painters.
Best rgds, Wolfgang
Kamilutka (8105) 2014-01-19 2:27
what an amazing picture! The colors look almost unreal - they are so beautiful. The little pub sits in very picturesque way on the bank of the river and the sky makes wonderful background.
Fantastic light! Definitely my favorite.
Have a nice Sunday!

A beautiful shot Brian but again the beauty hides the destruction caused by the floods. I would hate to have to clean up all the silt and debris! Judging by the number of cars parked, the pub is open for business and why not on a fine day like this? Superb light and rich colours make this a notable shot. Warm regards Rosemary

une belle compo avec un bon rendu de la lumière et des couleurs. L'atmosphère qui s'en dégage est particulière et très agréable.

More of the same? Yes please. By the same I include the heartwarming glow, exquisite details and flawless composition. I love the snakelike curve of the reflection. Just beautiful Brian. Regards. Klaudio.

One of the best shots of your series of photos during the recent floods in your country. The muddy waters look menacing but the warm sunlight is assuring. It is good to see that the old pub is standing and will perhaps continue as usual with a little bit of makeover. Very good composition from a well chosen POV with your signature wonderful light. Thanks for sharing.

Très bonne composition pour cette belle photo réalisée sous une superbe lumière.
ourania (43672) 2014-01-19 6:33
this is a magnificent picture in which elegance and drama coexist in an amazing way. I like very much how the perspective of the pub and that of the stone wall meet at the centre of the frame. The surface of the water and the clouds have a fine softness that contrasts and frames the sharp details and textures on the stonework and the trees. Warm light and soft shadows unusual colours and an unexpected foreground make your photo extraordinary and captivating. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great Sunday,

This could have been a painting, a perfectly composed picture with very attractive colours. This looks like a very pleasant place indeed!

Wow! So calm life on the bank of the water... I love this so attractive autumn (in this case the winter) view. Well done, Brian, impressive saturation for this season.

I have just returned from this place as the flood came back again. I will try and post an image tomorrow. I took several also from Swan Bridge in Pulborough at sunset. This picture is fabulous with that lovely light and reflection of the pub. Excellent and I wish that I had one like this.
Kind Regards, Ann

Even after the disastrous flooding which you have had in your area, you still manage to come up with a beautiful photograph!
We can see the expanse of muddied water yet still you have contrived to make that beautiful too with its reflections of the pub on its surface. The building itself is bathed in exquisite warm light of a winter's afternoon and almost glows against a lovely characterful sky.
Perfect composition and exposure, gorgeous colours and great sharpness as always.
RhodieIke (11744) 2014-01-20 21:16
I do love this it is so quitecentional English, the river with its brown colouring due to the swell has added so much colour and super atmosphere.
Looks a great pub and such a shame it was flooded. As always you have managed and presented it with your own unique style which I admire very much. Tfs,

Sad to hear there was some flooding going on, not too much damage I hope.
looks like a sweet and charming pub, love to see the inside some day.
just look at that roof! its pretty darn cool I must say. and you captured the scene in the best light possible for sure!
nice post all around
have a great weekend
InasiaJones (31566) 2014-01-25 19:44
With all the rusty colours covering this scene, provided by the charming house and its natural setting, I was sure that it was an autumn image, the dark clouds helping to create this perception.
Despite the sky seems to be covered, beautiful warm light is passing through to lit up the main object of the scene. The whole stage is irresistible, and the reflexion on the water surface is there to tame down the array of exciting colours and intricate details, like mirroring a quieter version of the scene, and providing a nice contrast that makes the composition very efficient and attractive.
ManuMay (36097) 2014-01-28 4:46
This looks as an ancient painting oil...superb light and colours from this Riverside capture, very beautiful place...
Have a nice day...

Fairytale house and surroundings.
Excellent colors and composition.
Reflection add savor of photo.
Have a nice afternoon

The colour of the water is really the colour of floods and lots of rain. You captured a good moment of sun with the dark sky as background. I like this stormy atmosphere, the colours and the pov - the reflection on the water is very good.
kasianowak (8709) 2014-06-15 3:23
I'm glad I have come across this image which I obviously missed when you first uploaded it. It looks like painting rather than a photograph. I love the muted colours, the reflection and the menacing clouds.
Enjoy your Sunday
