Comic book characters always seem to be off fishing and the sign "gone fishing" is iconic, but in this flood on the River Arun, in West Sussex, it prompts the question, where has the "fishing gone". You can see the gate in the water - that is the normal entrance for riverbank fisherman, as the river normally curves away to the right, rather than across the fields and over the trees.

Although the weather forecast is okay for the next couple of days, more rain is predicted for Wednesday!
A very well composed shot where the grassy bank anchors the f/g, giving depth to the focal trees and their fine reflections.
I can't help perceiving the l/h tree as an animal on its back, its legs waving violently in the air as it tries to save itself. Symbolic, you might say!
Have a lovely Sunday,

It is good to see that you have found out some beauty in the mayhem. Nice use of the wonderful light breaking through the dark clouds to liven up the scene. Not only humans the trees are also facing a tough time it seems. Excellent colors and light. Thanks for sharing.

I like the composition with the three bare trees well placed in relation to one another and serving to give the image depth. The image benefits from a lovely warm light and colours to match. Excellent clarity. I wish you a pleasant and hopefully rain free Sunday.

here is a wonderful composition. I like the beautiful view which is like a palate of colours. I like the soft light which you used masterfully. Another excellent shot. Tfs.

molto bello il contrasto tra la situazione tempestosa preannunciata dal cielo e il sole che illumina la scena e rende brillanti i colori.
Ottima, come al solito, la composizione.
Ciao e buona domenica

The light here is pure magic Brian and although the floods have been a huge trial for many, one cannot help but love this landscape. There is a quiet tranquility which must be add odds with the feverish activity that accompanies mopping up operations. Rich colours and contrasting light and the swathe of soft reflections in the flood water contribute to this lovely image. Nicely done! Warm regards Rosemary

A good light illuminates this scene, revealing the orange hues of the trees branches and trunks which contrat well with the blue cloudy sky and green BG.

I believe that photography is much more interesting for you, than for those of us who do not know the "normal state". Regardless - very nice landscape!

Beautiful and pleasant-looking picture!
You photographed some ordinary details, but with that light you managed to get lovely colors and contrasts! Together with an excellent composition, yes, that image truly pleases me!
TFS - congrats,

hi brian. i envy the way you always find such a fantastic light in the rainy britain. there is already much controversy going on about the boost of colors, so i only want to say that the light is fantastic as well as the landscape.

Stunning capture of this land under scene. It proves that even in catastrophy there can be beauty. The light is so wonderfully warm and the colors amazing, not to speak of the great and brooding sky above the scene.
have a great week

The right moment and the right place!!
Wonderful light bathing the scene, the golden tones over the trees are a very nice contrast against the cloudy sky, and the nude branches as nerves looking really good...
I love it!!

La lumière illuminant ce paysage de campagne est magnifique. Quant aux pêcheurs, il va falloir qu'ils se mouillent pour aller taquiner le poisson!
Kamilutka (8107) 2014-01-13 1:22
to come upon this kind of light is to be very lucky - you made me quite jealous with this image. I love how the naked and probably not that attractive trees become golden and stunning in this afternoon sun. The colors are wonderful and composition is simple and elegant.
Have a nice day!

Hey B, when did you sneak this one in? Apparently I'm missing 24 hrs. somewhere!? Fishermen seem to be some of the most determined and patient people, but even they must have limits... case in point, floods. Gone fishing? Nope, gone home! Too bad they couldn't incorporate some of those underground heating coils and turn this into one big hot tub party instead! :) At some point though, one of them will inevitably proclaim that he just caught one thiiiiiiis big!! hehe
Loving the golden hues from the sunlight in conjunction with the shades of blue in the sky. This has that beauty and the beast kind of appeal, Mother Nature can sure wreak havoc and at the same time produce a photo opportunity such as this in the aftermath. Making lemonade out of lemons, cool shot!
Cheers from the opposite end of the spectrum,
saxo042 (37880) 2014-01-14 0:01
A very attractive combination of a cloudy sky and a sunlit view. A good capture of the overflown valley where the trees add beautiful forms to the picture.

Another picture of this wondeful area. I have a friend who lives in Pulborough whose house overlooks the nature reserve. The fields usually grazed by cows are now a beautiful lake with the South Downs as the backdrop! Your picture is made so beautiful by the golden light and clear reflections. Lovely to see this. I admire the way that you are usually photographing at the best time of the day taking advantage of the best light.
Best wishes, Ann
mkamionka (36699) 2014-01-20 8:56
you have well used the opportunity to present this place in unusual circumstances. The light was extraordinary I can see a warm touch almost golden on the trees which are therefore brightly reflected in the water surface. The background being slightly darker makes a nice contrast. There is so much beauty here that no one would guess that there is some flood and potential danger photographed here.
adores (45329) 2014-01-28 15:29
This is a very beautiful landscape! These trees in the water make a very good composition. I like the reflections, the light and the fabulous dark sky. You captured a magical moment and colours are great, as usual!
