A dry and sunny day at last, and a soggy view of the ancient bridge that crosses the River Arun at Stopham in West Sussex, England. A Grade I listed monument that has spanned the river since 1432. The waters have only just started to recede after the storms of the past few weeks, but you can see clearly how high the waters reached by the greenish tide mark that is almost at the top of the bridge. The lovely old White Hart pub just out of shot to the right, was badly flooded though and is obviously closed whilst the clean up progresses.
You can see the drier version I took last May here:
In the workshop a cropped version as suggested by Trevor. Thanks.

une superbe photo, les teintes et les reflets sont très agréables.
On se rend bien conpte de la quantité d'eau inondant ce vieux pont.

Nice documentary shot of the recent floods in Britain. It is good to see that you had some sun shine at last. Comparison with your drier version shows the level of flooding in the area. Good detailing captured on the bridge in lovely light as usual. I liked the the drier version more. Thanks for sharing.

Very good shot of this bridge in a very nice light with dark clouds in the background. Good clarity and colours. Nice reflections in the murky waters. (However, I don't think that the image would suffer if the wire at top of image was cropped out).

Pity about the pub, let's hope it doesn't have to stay shut for too long. Your picture clearly demonstrates the effects of the recent terrible weather. The light is ideal to bring out the detail and warm tones in the stonework. Some beautiful reflections as well.

Good Morning Brian,
I have to say, the light is absolutely sublime, in this shot! It has given the colours a lovely warmth as well as creating those fine reflections in the river. Still, there is a foreboding sky to remind one of the past terrible weather!
I like how you have included the surrounding trees as a natural frame and, of course, the exposure is really sharp.
Have a great day,

here is a beautiful one. You got it superbly. Like the excellent texture of the bridge and the reflection of it in water. Great shot with a fine graphical impact. Very well done. Tfs.

Hello Brian ,
The level of the rivers is high in Brittany , too .
This is a splendid capture of this beautiful old stoned bridge , with great light , reflections , colors , and contrast with the stormy sky . May be it woul have been better without the wire , but this is not a big problem .
SnapRJW (31621) 2014-01-10 7:50
Hello Brian - Beautiful light and one of the benefits of the stormy sky I guess. Apart from being a very interesting documentary shot this is a real beauty with some gorgeous colours and detailing. The overhead wire is a bit of a nuisance but I think the balance of the shot is thrown out in the cropped version. Have a lovely weekend Rosemary

Splendid photo with fantastic light and beautiful reflections, just a pity that it is a flood

Ciao e buon fine settimana

The light is beautiful, the colors very nice.
The dryer version is interesting because we can see how high is the water!
PS : the picture would have been nicer without the wire on its top, but I guess that it was not easy to avoid it.

La lumière est fabuleuse ici et met particulièrement bien ce pont en valeur. J'aime tout dans cette photo....sauf le fil!

Sorry to hear that the White Hart was flooded (I have had a couple of lovely meals there). The colours in the is image are outstanding and I particularly like the various layers of tide marks on the old stone bridge. I might have mentioned it before that there are beautiful wooded areas close by of natural wild daffodils in the spring (following a track behind the old church).
Kind Regards, Ann

it is so interesting to see both photos, the change is huge. This one has truly extraordinary light, also with interesting sky, the naked trees add a more dramatic touch. Reflection adds to the mood as well. Very impressive photo,

its is a panoramic view of this ancient
bridge a shot with classic and warm colors
according to your useful notes it is very
impressive how high the waters reached
by the greenish tide mark that is
almost at the top of the bridge
the weather has been changed in our days
u fortunately and we must accept it

This reminds me of some old bridges we have here! A good pov and great colours, as usual. I like the reflection on the water and the dark sky in background. The light was just perfect! I also like the cropped version!
