Another late blue hour shot from Birmingham. I hope to inspire Trekkers to visit this interesting city. When you can't go to Greece or Rome, you can enjoy the classic architecture in England.
Birmingham Town Hall is a Grade I listed concert hall and venue for popular assemblies opened in 1834 and situated in Victoria Square, Birmingham, England.
The first of the monumental town halls that would come to characterise the cities of Victorian England, Birmingham Town Hall was also the first significant work of the 19th century revival of Roman architecture,a style chosen here in the context of the highly-charged radicalism of 1830s Birmingham for its republican associations. The design was based on the proportions of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Roman Forum. "Perfect and aloof" on a tall, rusticated podium, it marked an entirely new concept in English architecture.
It was created as a home for the Birmingham Triennial Music Festival established in 1784, the purpose of which was to raise funds for the General Hospital, after St Philip's Church (later to become a Cathedral) became too small to hold the festival, and for public meetings.
The hall underwent a major renovation between 2002 and 2008. It now hosts a diverse programme of events including jazz, world, folk, rock, pop and classical concerts, organ recitals, spoken word, dance, family, educational and community performances, as well as annual general meetings, product launches, conferences, dinners, fashion shows, graduation ceremonies and broadcasts.

Bonjour, chère Malgo,
Magnifique reproduction d'un Temple ancien. De plus, félicitations pour cette très belle prise de vue nocturne, le résultat est remarquable.
Je vous présent mes meilleurs voeux pour l'année 2014.

A fine night time capture of this magnificent Town Hall built in the classical style and designed to emphasise the importance of the city, which at that time considered itself second only to London. Despite the rather cluttered foreground (difficult to avoid) your point of view shows the architecture to full advantage. Ideally exposed and with excellent colours and clarity.
ourania (45048) 2014-01-03 3:51
this could be Greece too:) The context, the condition of the building and some details in the architecture say it isn't:) I like very much the dynamism of your point of view and the superb depth you have achieved. Sharpness and clarity are stunning. You used great settings and managed the different sources, colours and intensities of lighting in a remarkable way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a wonderful year!

it is quite suprising to find architecture like this in England! It gives us an idea how the classic Roman(or Greek)temples looked like. Good exposure and pov.
Have a nice weekend!

Excellent blue hour shot! The photo is pin sharp and of excellent quality. Good angular POV to show as many columns as possible and to add depth to the composition. Great detailing on the wall and columns from such distance. Thanks for sharing a stunning capture.

J'ai quand même l'impression que les romains sont passés par là et ont laissé leur empreinte architecturale sur la ville anglaise. L'illumination nocturne est magnifique et le ciel bleu foncé superbe.

super blue hour shot this, so accomplished and I agree it could be in Italy or Greece. Looks amazing, really do need to visit some of the bigger cities in my homeland. Stunning image!
Happy 2014 and enjoy the first weekend of the New Year - B.

I love he classical proportions of this fine building, and at the blue hour it's white finish really stands out so well. I would never have dreamt this to be Birmingham, and your thoughts To inspire people to visit have certainly worked on me! Between this and the library, my interest is really peaked.
All the best

Attractive night view of the Birmingham Town Hall, with golden lighting accentuating the Romanesque temple like architecture. Another fine example of the romantic classical architecture from the 19th century which was also popular in the U.S.

Well, first on my mind was Athens..never mind, I see that Birmingham has a great heritage for itself. Lovely night capture, I like your image a lot.

What a pity that the climate of Greece or Rome is so much nicer than in Birmingham. I always prefer to go south. But the blue hour is just as blue in England, and built as recently as 1834 this "temple" looks like being in a much better condition than the original ones. Nice photo.

hi malgo. the mayor should offer you the photographic key of the town, as you do so well to promote the city's tourism. but, sorry for birmingham, it still has to offer so many other things to be preferred upon rome. but yes, this photo of yours put the name of the city in my mind. why not a visit on a british islands trip?

A Happy New Year to you, Malgo!
Birmingham is a place I have only visited once, on business and only for a very short time, so even to me it is a surprise to find that such a magnificent building as this belongs in that English midland city and not in ancient Rome!
Your note is very interesting and informative and you have captured this wonderful building in lovely light in a very well composed photograph. The colours are delightful, you have taken the picture at just the right time (the "blue hour"), your exposure is perfect and the details and sharpness are exquisite.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Super view point and compo with the Townhall is well set off in between displaying the wonderfully ornate architecture to keep the main interest in focus. Interesting description accompanying this shot, a beautifully taken lively image in excellent clarity, nice warm glow of the night providing such good contrast to blue night sky. An awesome shot, TFS. Congrats

I didn´t know you could find such a beautiful view in this industrialized area of England. The illumination is favourable here. The building looks very good below the dark sky.

Hello Malgo. An original title. At the top are the invisible gods, - and on earth the man-made temple. Some buildings have inscriptions such as "William, of God's chosen ruler". Building in the style of classicism are everywhere in Europe. Your photo is really excellent and technically perfect.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

Beautiful shot in the blue hour! I like the blue sky and the exposure is very good. Really looks like Greece at first glance. It's a very beautiful town hall!

Hi, Malgo, Good title for this photo, This is excellent point of view and great exposure, I love Birmingham and I was surprised that the center of this city is so small. Although it is the second largest city of the UK. TFS! Best wishes, Serghei
