Another candid shot taken in the Old Town of Edinburgh during Festival time in August, this time of a young girl who was part of a group handing out pamphlets or "fliers" promoting some plays which were taking place that day. I've already shown you some pictures of comedians, jugglers and living statues taken on the same occasion.
The Edinburgh Festival is a collective term for many arts and cultural festivals that take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, each summer, mostly in August. Though the festivals are put on by various organisations unrelated to each other, and so are officially separate events, they are regarded by many visitors as part of the same event; and together they form the largest annual cultural festival in the World.
The original, and still the largest, component festivals are the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; the latter is in its own right larger than any other similar event in the World.

hello john ~
i'm a big fan of fringe festivals, so your caption caught my attention right away.
but i was really drawn to the girl's face, her make-up and the expression you captured in her eyes ~ wow. i might even have cropped everything from the beginning of the lettering on her t-shirt down, and just let her face be the center of attention. it's so riveting, it doesn't matter to me what she's doing. great capture!
happy new year ~

Bon portrait de cette jeune fille ....qui ne parait quand même pas extrêmement ravie de faire la promotion de ce festival!

a very attractive candid portrait that captivates our attention for a long time. I like very much how the little girl stands out from the crowd and movement that surrounds her, her glance makes us feel the existence of a large and meaningful context beyond the borders of the frame. The colours, the sharpness and particularly the texture of her hair, make the photo so lively. Her expression is very intriguing and, combined with the effect of the make up, renders the impact of the portrait quite strong. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a very happy year, enjoy your family and art fully!

interesting study this, despite the make up no hiding the solemn and glum face of this little girl. Perhaps handing out leaflets is less fun than enjoying the other events at this iconic and wonderful festival. Super shot though full of character and beautiful detail.
All the very, very best for 2014 - B.

This young girl with a lovely face and nice mask.
The eyes are a little bit sad.
Also a nice generally picture.
Very well done, TFS.
Nice end of the Year, and Happy New Year.

Definitely not the happy face of a clown!
She seems to be carrying tickets to see everything but ... something isn't quite right!
A very good portrait, well positioned in the frame, narrow dof with the focus very definitely on the girl but with an oof b/g which add to the whole warmth of the shot.
I am intrigued.
This certainly sets up a story in my mind!
Wishing you and Yvonne all the very best for the New Year,

this little lady looks a little apprehensive, not at all what you might expect from a one so young and you have caught her expression faultlessly, those dark eyes and wisps of hair are delightful.
Best wishes for 2014.

very interesting post!
When i look at his young girl with her worried and/or concerned/sad affect, i wonder what has her feeling this way. Something for sure has her attention, or is it that she's just bored? Perhaps you know because you were there and in the same area...did she see something that upset her? any ideas John?
just curious thas all....because from your previous posts of this festival everyone seems to be having a fun and memorable type of day...thats not what i'm sensing from her.
the moment was captured brilliantly. I like the work you did with her eyes, they really stand out.
A strong post!!!
A bit of a contrast in terms of wishing everyone a Happy New Year though lol, but I know you posted this a few days ago.
See you around
lets hope for lots of travel and lots of good photos.
any travel plans for 2014?

A very nice girl with an equally nice facial painting. An interesting note too, we were here and saw the Tattoo in 2007. That was a great evening!
