This is another picture taken in Glen Shee during our recent trip to Scotland on our way to meet up with other TE members. Autumn is a lovely time of the year to visit this wild landscape. Glen Shee is mostly in north Perthshire although this photo I think was taken in Aberdeenshire as it was not far from Braemar.

Lovely Scottish scene!
It has a certain mood. Could be an illustration to a Elizabeth George crime novel.
Shapes and colors are absolutely wonderful!

love shots like this. It smacks of the remoteness and yet intrinsic beauty of Scotland. Wonderful clarity and tones that just make the image so compelling and appealing. Love it!
Enjoy the weekend - B.
PS the trees in Friston Forest are on a steep slope and strangely bent by the wind. Thanks for you kind comment.

You have found a very strong subject with excellent positioning of the old house with in nice light. You´ve placed the main point of interest, the house, to the side of the frame which really does strengthen things and creates excellent balance. The sunny atmosphere adds a nice hue to the scene.
Wish you a very nice weekend.

A small stone house in the backdrop of this huge dramatic slope certainly looks remote and lonely. I like the textures on the mountain slope and the soft afternoon sunlight. The green grass contrasts well with the brown worn out grass on the slope.
Lovely photo and thanks for sharing.

Nice capture of this lonesome farmbuilding midts of an empty and wild landscape.
TFS and Merry Christmas !

A very lonely place to live especially at this time of year. You have framed the shot well and had the benefit of an attractive ambient light. Pleasing natural colours and very good sharpness.

il segreto della bellezza di questa foto è la semplicità, la stessa che permette di concentrare l'attenzione sulola rusticità della costruzione lasciando al paesaggio di creare un bel contorno con le sue variazioni di colore.
Contrasto e composizione eccellenti.
Ciao, buona giornata e buon fine settimana

All the brown and earth colours match perfectly to the pale green and the shape of the little building in this desolate landscape.
SnapRJW (31625) 2013-12-21 3:53
Hello Ann - The remoteness of the location is what strikes me here, the little cottage is hunkered down in the shadow of the mountainside and the enormity of the landscape is emphasised by you composition. A lovely natural colour palette and excellent textural details appeal to me. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Ann ,
Your choice to compose the picture without sky is excellent . That provides an impressive feeling . This lonely house is so attractive , with the brown inclines in the BG .
rigoletto (34269) 2013-12-21 4:24
hi ann. even the thumbnail suggested scotland, it is incredibly typical, the landscape. superb pastel colors of the land, and the little cottage is very well placed in the compo. good exposure without sky, that gives shades of earth's curvatures.

Also Belgium without snow an very green Christmas with high temperatures for this time of year.
But without snow can you also make a very good panoramic view about these area.
The farm is presumably a lot years leave, maybe alone a animal stable.
Nice perspective and depth picture.
High quality picture with pleasant colours.
Wonderful composition, nice captured.
Very well done, TFS.
I wish you and your family a very nice Merry Christmas,

J'aime beaucoup la position de la maison dans l'image. Elle laisse beaucoup de place à son environnement de montagnes très dur et rugueux.J'aime beaucoup la texture et les différentes couleurs de la végétation.

A good shot of this lonely farm in its desolate environment
Nice light and natural colors
Bravo, very pleasant picture
Best regards, merry Xmas

Yes, this is still Aberdeenshire and not very far south of Braemar at all. So it didn't take much searching for me to reckon that you parked your car in the lay-by at this red cross and then you only needed to walk a few yards to get this shot. You can see this little cottage if you drag the little yellow man down to the red cross and pan around.
But what an amazing shot this is - so elegant in its simplicity yet with gorgeous soft autumnal colours so typical of the more remote parts of Scotland at this time of year. Excellent and pleasing composition, lovely light, colours and textures, perfect exposure and exquisite details and clarity.

Hi! Very interesting and attractive picture, with special regards to the soft light & colors and composition! Cheers, Neyvan
carlo62 (38024) 2013-12-21 7:04
saxo042 (37602) 2013-12-21 7:05
The background hillside looks very artistic, like someone designed this pattern with lighter and darker areas. The lonely building adds a sense of proportions. A very beautiful picture!
holmertz (44458) 2013-12-21 10:49
This is a very well composed photo where the little farmhouse (presumably abandoned since long ago) gives stability to the view, which is otherwise dominated by the almost floating shades of brown, grey, yellow and green. It's one of those photos that would have provided a nice challenge for a painter.
rasterman (329) 2013-12-21 11:11
A lovely photo with a fantastic atmosphere. I think you picked the perfect way Scottish countryside.
Strong but very natural colors and perfect sharpness.
Simple but very effective composition, and a background rich in textures and colors.
Honestly it's one of the photos that I liked most in the last days. My congratulations for your great work.

Hi Ann,your class to take landscapes is always fantastic! yes the place does look remote and it looks so cool.love the place and the idyllic location.
krzychu30 (15510) 2013-12-21 23:23
lonely house somewhere in the wilderness. This makes the scene so atmospheric and evocative.
I like the way you composed the scene and how you presented to us not only the house, but also this beautiful background.
Have a nice sunday
marabu61 (9389) 2013-12-22 8:52
A wonderful portrait of this old farm building set so forlorn in the rugged landscape. It gives us a good idea about the hardship that life must bring in these remote places.
Great colors and a pleasing light makes this a pleasure to look at.
have a great week
chrislo (4155) 2013-12-22 13:33
The lone house lost in the immensity of the land is the main focal point of this beautiful landscape. The viewpoint and composition are excellent with the house strongly positioned in the frame, adding a fine sense of depth. I like the soft light and natural tones of the picture. The green and brown hues of the vegetation blend perfectly together and add texture to the image. The environment is very appealing, yet I would not live in such a remote place ! A first rate photography.
subhendu_bagchi (25973) 2013-12-23 3:42
a very nice composition. Like the small building just below the hills. Great light and nice colour tone. A lonely feeling can be set up after seeing this nicely composed one. Tfs.
williewhistler (15413) 2013-12-23 4:49
I do enjoy your interpretation of this scene with the deserted stone cottage tucked beneath the harsh moorland hills.
Whilst you may have had the benefit of a lovely light I guess that a degree of clever PP work was needed to accentuate those gorgeous brown tones,it`s simplicity is stunning.Love it.
So far we are still connected, however just across the border power has been lost in hundreds of homes..
Seasons Greetings from soggy Devon.
Royaldevon (33033) 2013-12-23 6:20
A lovely composition makes this scene of Scotland really attractive. It reminds me of oil paintings that my gran had on her living room wall. There is a wonderful sense of wild beauty, with the cosy retreat to snuggle into when the work is over.
The colours are so indicative of the area and the time of year.
I hope you and John have a really happy Christmas,
photoray (13418) 2013-12-23 7:18
Attractive image not only for the ancient stone Braemar cottage, but also Nature's colorful textured patterns on the hillside background.
Best wishes for the Holidays to you and Family,
boa (6269) 2013-12-23 8:23
nice capture from Scottish countryside, it reminds me a little bit of Iceland. Splendid composition and a good contribution for TE!
Merry Christmas for to and your family.
Glint (6171) 2013-12-23 8:29
I know exactly where this is as we pass it regularly on the way north to visit my son and his family. You have found a great light here and the cottage and it's setting is perfectly exposed. Lovely and sharp. I love the textures and earthy colours of the mountain behind. I once photographed this cottage in the snow and have it framed. Another I took in during a typical Scottish summertime and posted to TE.
I have just noticed the wee bush of gorse? top right -nice highlight.

C'est la petite maison dans la prairie avec un paysage spectaculaire et magnifique
macjake (60596) 2013-12-24 3:44
Oh this is perfect!
my kind of scene for sure :)
I really like how you chose to leave the skyline out of the picture. the rolling yet steep slope adds alot as well, as do the patches of browns and greens.
looking at this, i can't help but wonder the purpose of this shed? shed? not sure what it is. I'd love to get inside to take a look.
wonderful light and subject.
Merry xmas to you and your family
Graal (99802) 2013-12-26 1:28

Have a nice day and end of year!

I like this landscape and the little lonely house. A fantastic region to discover, I'm sure! The different brown tonalities are fabulous and light is also very good. A good shot!
delpeoples (54667) 2013-12-31 1:27
This photo is delightful. I'm not sure whether I'm more in love with those unmistakable Scottish hills or the characteristic little house which is dwarfed by them. Together they make a formidable photo, the light and natural colours and contrasts are beautifully done. Superb shot, congratulations.
Warmest wishes and I wish you every happiness for 2014, including good health, family and lots of travels
mkamionka (32353) 2014-01-01 9:27
very original composition: the lone house makes a nice object to focus on and you have placed it well in the frame. It seems to be surrounded by the rough landscape which is well painted with the autumnal colors.
Very well seen and captured.
I wish you a happy New Year, full of great photographic opportunities,
willperrett (8017) 2014-01-05 6:21
Simple, classic and clean. Lovely natural tones, and perfect compostion. Happy New Year.
Ellov (104) 2014-01-19 13:30
Thanks for this picture. It remembers me my trip in Scotland. This kind of landscape is really typical...
I like this composition, thank you for this trip back in time.
Kamilutka (8105) 2014-01-20 5:11
I think this is very successful photo in all its simplicity. The farm looks very charming and somehow reminds some of the films of Scottish heroes. The fields and hills behind are amazing background and you were so right to frame the image without the sky which probably would be only distracting. Beautiful game of colors and warm shades.
Thanks for sharing
Didi (58772) 2014-01-23 8:52
Beautiful view and good frame quality of this composition with a darker background
Kaisa71 (228) 2014-02-01 8:07
Hi, this is very impressive photo. Maybe because I am a Finn who enjoy spending time in the woods (or moors) without seeing anybody else. I know my mind and body would have a rest in this beautiful remote area.
Very good DOF and color variation. I will add this photo to my favourites.
kiks (11781) 2014-02-03 8:13
Hello Ann, lovely compositition with the tight framing that gives a lovely effect. Love the softness of colors.
i9l2y1m8a8t3 (4798) 2014-03-30 1:53
Very nice. Is someone still using that house? I can't imagine myself livinghere, maybe for several days. Nice earthy colors, the gradient is nice as well. I think the POV worked out pretty well in here. Great shot.
All the best,
