More than 36,000 runners filled the streets in London today, while about 500,000 Londoners and tourists encouraged them with cheers, shouts and smiles.
As every year, it was a wonderful event: the joyful atmosphere, the cheering crowds, the athletes running for glory, for charities or just for fun, and the wonderful sun blessing the City, all was perfect.
The event was particularly meaningful as it happened just six days after the bombings at the Boston Marathon: a 30-second silence was observed at the start, and many runners worn black ribbons.
These athletes running together, and the people supporting them, prove that for every terrorist mother****er there are millions who refuse to be terrorized.

This is a fine sports photo. From this angle they all look so squeezed together that it seems everyone has to run as fast as the guys pushing from behind. This must have been quite early in the race. It's an impressive sight and there's no lack of bright and eye-catching colours.

An excellent pov from a high vantage point. The tight framing and vertical format work well here to show the mass of runners packed together. A splendid sight, full of colour. Well done.

I really like this shot Alberto - You had a super POV for your colourful and nicely managed shot. The long lens has really worked well packing in the runners by shortening the distance. The man in red in the FG catches the eye and I think it is good in a crowd scene to have a face that stands out. Very atmospheric shot. Warm regards Rosemary

You had a spectacular vantage point to take this wall-to-wall assemblage of runners. Well composed, sharp and colorful, it has not gotten anywhere near the recognition that it deserves (my green smiley is the 7th). In the same genre of high density, I can think of another photo, the Turkish physiciaan Ahmet Gedikli posted a photo from Mecca a few years ago that actually dwarfs the total population seen here, but it's also breath taking in its scope. I will elevate this photo to my gallery of favorites.
