At the risk of being repetitive I’m posting another shot taken on the beautiful Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye. I was fortunate to stay in this location for 3 days and in that time saw the lighthouse and surrounding landscape under hugely different light and weather conditions. This shot was taken in the morning and as you can see the weather was stormy and the sky dramatic.
Isleornsay is a small fishing village on the Sleat Peninsula of the Isle of Skye. Across the waters from the village, and over the Sound of Sleat lie the Knoydart mountains of the Scottish mainland, giving a spectacular backdrop to the nearby tidal islands of Ornsay and Eilean Sionnach. On Eilean Sionnach stands a lighthouse built by Robert Louis Stephenson's father in 1857 and automated a little over a century later in 1962.
The lighthouse of Eilean Sionnach is a perfect centerpiece to a quite spectacular bay, surrounded on three sides by cloud-wreathed mountains and the waters of the Sound of Sleat.
The author Gavin Maxwell (Ring of Bright Water) owned the lighthouse keeper's cottages briefly in the late 1960s.

The stormy atmosphere is quite palpable. The backlit clouds bring an air of mystery to the landscape heightened by the slash of light across the water. Excellent presentation. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful sky! The golden light among the dark clouds is amazing. You were at the right place, at the right moment.

moody, magical and marvellous. So atmospheric this shot and full of the drama that this sort of weather can produce, and of course all the more effective in this gloriously beautiful setting. Stunning!
Regards - Brian.

This is a magnificent and dramatic composition. The light-conditions may have been a bit difficult but you have handled them perfectly. I love the sunrays between the hills towards the right and across the water. The clouds, their shapes and colours, are just wonderful. The lighthouse is another perfect focus for my eyes.

Beautiful angry sky, as if the heavens are alight. To have the scene include not only the sky, but that beautiful lighthouse is a winning combination. I love how we can see the small area in the hills that are being lit by the beams of light. Cool shot, thanks
All the best

Ciao e buona serata

Wow! What a fantastic scene you have seen and photographed! The cloudy sky with such a special light behind it created a really unique and stunning view. Like it a lot! Perfectly executed work. Bravo!!!

Rosemary, a lovely, very bluish, shot. There are multiple horizontal layers here, from the water at the bottom up to the dark clouds at the top. The lighthouse pulls it all together, even though it is relatively small in the frame. Great job with the sun. This is really a beautiful shot. Thanks for posting it.

you captured here excellently this stormy weather.
I just can´t get my eyes off this beautiful, warm illuminated clouds in the middle of the shot. You were able to convey very good this unique mood of this scene.
Beautiful and well exposed composition!
Have a nice day

Two such different seascapes, this one and your photo yesterday. And two such different weather patterns. I love the low light here, the drama, the menace and the sense of a violent and dramatic history that the Highlands always evoke for me. The light on the water and the light through the clouds is just as breath-taking as your limpid turquoise water of yesterday's photo. Congratulations, thanks for sharing.
Have a lovely Friday

The yellow ray of light is peering through the big clouds and gives color to this almost dark blue-grey landscape. this is Scotland!

I've missed the other shots in the series, so I'll go and look for them. Meanwhile, what a really nice shot, well balanced exposure, great sky, lovely colour tones and sharp. I really must get myself to Skye at some point, what a location, really well captured.
marabu61 (6491) 2013-04-19 12:50
Don't worry, you could show us here as many pictures of that gorgeous place and I would never grew bored with it.
Those sun rays penetrating that brooding and foreboding sky is simply beautiful and the lonesome light tower sitting there on the outcrop complete this composition wonderfully.
have a good weekend

What a perfect, artistic photo! A magical moment, splendid composition, superb colours and lights.
williewhistler (11266) 2013-04-19 14:37
oh I do like the moody threatening atmosphere of this shot, the little pool of light illuminates the distant mountains giving a really nice recession to a really moody capture.
Best regards, Les.

Nice light capture and contrast, beautiful landscape with water ad tower, well managed, tfs.
brianmcc (5915) 2013-04-20 11:59
the stormy skies and heavy layers of cloud look amazing in this image. the light peeking through and illuminating the water is wonderful. your placement of the lighthouse is perfect. a very moody, atmospheric image.
Royaldevon (24324) 2013-04-21 10:31
This is a most beautiful, atmospheric shot, despite the fact that it is heralding a storm. It, somehow, holds the qualities of a painting; maybe it is the horizontal layers of differing tones and textures, the contrasts of light and shadow and the, almost, romantic subject. I just love the mood it evokes.
The lighthouse is well placed but, the magical detail, for me, is the light on the hillside.
My warm regards,
josepmarin (57267) 2013-04-25 2:48
this scene is simply breathtaking.
You have caught clearly this wonderful scottish landscape of islands, sea and mountains.
The stormy weather and the weak light add a dramatic atmosphere on the ensemble.
It's a beautiful composition, perfectly executed.
