Merry Christmas to Everyone on TE!
The weather here in Scotland has been dull and miserable with lots of rain and little if any snow at all this month. So this is a picture taken just before Christmas five years ago as the sun was rising above a frozen Lanark Loch and the warm early light was just catching the tops of the trees.
May I wish all on TE a Very Happy Christmas and a Happy and Healthy and Prosperous New Year. And many thanks to all here who have guided me in my haphazard attempts to learn more about the art of photography this year!

nice Winter scenery with the whole beauty to be so well presented.I like the light and the colour management as the beauty of the image.

che bella immagine per farci gli auguri, la luce è splendida ed il riflesso ha delle sfumature spettacolari, il tutto immerso in uno scenario natalizio per eccellenza.
Tanti auguri anche e te ed un saluto a Lanark.

when you're describing the weather, are you sure you aren't visiting Vancouver? Are you in town lol
We've had only 1 Day of Snow, and it was rained away the day after - but thats very typical for Vancouver. We 'usually' only get snow up on our mountains here, in the Valley, the City Centres it rains rains rains.
So is this water frozen here? enough to walk on? doesn't look very thick yet - but then again the photo is taken in 2007! Just realized that! haha
love the frost, love the ice, love the Crispness felt in the air!
Have a wonderful day tomorrow! its 2 pm here, so its almost midnight Christmas Eve your way!
So Merry Christmas!!!!

merry christams to you to. i reckon we're all struggling to post recent photos this year with that seasonal slant to them. this one is superb. the light warming the tops of the trees is wonderful and helps create a lovely magical atmoshpere. your framing is excellent with the trees on the left and the lough curving round towards the trees. the warm light reflecting in the water is an added bonus.
have a lovely christmas,

Perfect for the season, John, and Merry Christmas to you as well! Much like you we haven't gotten a decent snowfall yet, though evidently one is due tomorrow. Likely won't produce anything like this beauty though, with the frosted grass and trees creating such a wonderful stillness. The light at the top of the trees is a perfect offset to it all as well - amazing the rich orange it produced on the icy surface of the water as well! Lovely image and a nice sentiment in your note. Happy holidays!

Mammamia che bellezza e che foto!
This is a cracker (excuse the Christmas pun!). I love everything about it. The powdery snow provides a natural frame for this masterpiece, the textures, the light management and the definition are majestic. And that touch od gold light in the middle of the pond - wow - truly exquisite. Jeez you must have been delighted with this. I am delighted for you. It's a masterpiece. And thank you for your beautiful wishes, your photos, your critiques and above all your friendship this year. You're some man!

"...a winter day ... in a deep and dark december ...
I am a rock!" Do you remember?
Well seen, well done and a great contrast to the present situation of more than +10°C with rain and mud here in Rhineland.
Merry Christmas to you and your family

The cold blue colours of the frost are very pleasant against the warmer sunshine on the treetops and the reflections in the lake.
I wish you a good continuation of Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I saw your reply to Craig (macjake) and I can hardly believe my eyes. Here I see a perfectly exposed, sharp picture with lovely colours and light and you complain of your technique! What's the problem?
By the way, regarding that Santa Claus was "Turkish", did you read that a Turkish professor of archeology has demanded that Santa's bones should be returned to Turkey from Italy? I got the idea that Santa would feel better to be back in his homeland.
Wishing you a continued perfect holiday.

Hi John, So it was so five years ago, it is a pity that not this year. Lovely view, I like such a frost covering all branches and grasses. But it usually lasts only short time, you must have camera with you. Marvelous colours and cold atmosphere. I think you learned a lot about art of photography this year, it is magnificent photo. Great second day of Christmas with family, I hope, and wonderful 2013. And was Santa generous to you?
We had white but wet Christmas

I appreciate your Xmas card, rewarding you for being an early bird to catch the first rays of light coming on the frost country.

Wonderful crispy and frozen shot with golden light that beautifully repeats its colour in water. I like your composition framing with branches a lot.
Noel_Byrne (16219) 2012-12-26 8:31
I love the beautiful soft and subtle colours in this, especially inside the reflection. The scene is very Christmassy, and I can almost hear the crunch of the frost covered grass. Really nice festive shot.
All the best, and Merry Christmas
ourania (21432) 2012-12-27 3:53
a very lovely and unusual winter image with a marvellous contrast between the frosty freezing landscape and the very warm light that appears in diverse forms and intensities at different parts of the frame. The composition is very solid and elegant and the excellent sharpness reveals the wonderful natural textures under the ice. I love the sense of depth, the play of ice and "fire" and the subtle tones discerned under the light grey veil of ice and shade. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely festive season and a great 2013 full of Love, Health and Joy!

Beautifully composed as ever and light skillfully managed :-) the reflection on the loch is divine.
Hope you had a great xmas and a brilliant new year
Glint (5965) 2012-12-29 12:58
a belated Merry Christmas to you too.Brr this looks a cold yin.I like the way the gold top trees are reflected in the water. A welcome dash of warmth in a cold, cold scene.Great wintry atmosphere and we coukd do with some of that now. I had hoped to spend at least some of the Christmas hols taking photos but my camera has remained firmly indoors. -too grey and glum for inspiration.
best wishes for the New Year.
finlay (1547) 2012-12-31 4:11
Thanks for sharing this one. It's a reminder of how great the winter weather can be on a cold frosty day. Sadly not the type of weather we have had over the festive season this year .. Perhaps in January we will be luckier!!
The low winter sun provides a warm glow over the trees and in the reelection in the loch. Good clarity, very well captured.
SnapRJW (26088) 2013-01-03 3:07
Happy New Year John - Beautiful and atmospheric shot with the warm light highlighting the tips of the trees and casting a bright area of reflections. Love the frost covered grass and branches too. Winter at her best. Warm regards rosemary

I seemed to have slipped from TE during the holiday break - just too busy! I hope that you had a good time and the weather was kind.
This is a beautiful frozen landscape and the the light reflected in the water is magnificent.
Best wishes for 2013.

Thank you for digging into your archives for this beautiful frosty picture .
The colours are extraordinary with some appearing through the white frost, and I love the golden top of the trees and the red reflections in the lake.
Also the composition in semi-circle round this end of the lake was a good choice.
Hope you had a nice festive season and that the New Year will be kind to you and yours.
InasiaJones (30736) 2013-01-18 7:56
A delicate and ephemeral moment so nicely caught, with a touch of magic light.
Excellent use of foreground elements that bring a lot of depth. The reddish reflection is a strong eye-catcher, as it stands out against the cold tones. The composition is well thought.
If it isn't too late, let me wish you a very Happy New Year John!
