Dunster Castle is an ancient castle and comfortable country home with dramatic vistas and subtropical gardens
Dramatically sited on a wooded hill, a castle has existed here since at least Norman times, with an impressive medieval gatehouse and ruined tower giving a reminder of its turbulent history.
The castle that you see today became a lavish country home during the 19th century for the Luttrell family, who lived here for 600 years.
The castle boasts spectacular views toward the Bristol channel, the Quantock hills and up to the moors of Exmoor.
As no flash or tripod was allowed the ISO was 1000

You have done a splendid job with the sharpness, without the use of a tripod. Very good anti-shake or do you have a very steady hand!
The shot is very nicely composed, the corner of the room on the thirds line, giving that chair a strong focal position. The whole shot has a very cosy atmosphere from the warmth of the colours and the lamps and the intimacy of the setting.
My warm regards,

You have captured the atmosphere of this splendid room and the soft lighting adds to the effect. Not being able to use the flash has, in this instance, been an unforeseen bonus as the softness achieved adds to the whole image beautifully. Good shot Les.

una luce molto difficile, ma ben gestita, la foto è leggibile e molti sono i particolari visibili.
Mi piace la tonalità calda diffusa dalle lampade.
Una bella foto.

A very interesting note and a very fine photograph!
I just love photographs of interiors like this, especially if they have such wonderful natural lighting as in this case. And, of course, our new digital cameras can now cope with such low light extremely well - if handled in the correct manner - as you obviously have here!
Very well done for managing to hand hold an exposure of 1/30 second and, probably more importantly, being able to keep everything in the picture as sharp as this with your lens wide open at f/2.8. I suspect that you must have estimated "hyperfocal distance" in order to achieve such excellent sharpness and depth of field.
Lots of lovely interesting details in this fine room, lovely lighting, perfect exposure, super sharpness and excellent colours - and precious little evidence of noise either!

C'est une photo comme on en voit rarement. Vous avez été très habile sans trépied. Belle netteté et la luminosité est parfaite. Il se dégage une belle atmosphère, très chaleureuse. C'est réussi.

Despite the lack of tripod and the high ISO (an, thankfully for the beautiful light in this shot, no flash!) you've created a lovely image here, Leslie. The warm light from the windows and the lamps gives this library a cozy feel, while the ornate furnishings create an elegance here that only these older estates can have. Lovely tones and clarity throughout.

Hello Leslie - The colours here are so rich and luxurious looking, perfect for the subject and the atmosphere conveyed is one of cosy comfort. A lovely shot, it makes me want to curl up with a good book and a nice glass of Port. Very well managed too without a tripod! Warm regards rosemary

I like very much the warm atmosphere of this library, with the big paintings. Ready to start reading a book, but which one?

I like the cosy atmosphere in this well composed shot, which benefits nicely from the framing offered by the warmly lit lamps. A very pleasant study in light and shade. The clarity is excellent despite having to use 1000 ISO.

Hello Les! I saw in your gallery a lot of interesting information here and impresses the inner corner of this house, with all just! maybe old, but charming house precision! The image has the appearance reminiscent of an oil painting!

This picture exudes warmth and cosiness - just the place to be on a cold winter's evening. The chair looks particularly inviting and lit beautifully in the dark corner.
A timeless image and very well taken.

Sorry to have missed you, I think we were playing phone tag. Hopefully we'll catch up when you're back. Maybe a night shoot if that suits? Anyway, I love this photo. Libraries are wonderful subjects, and the warm tones are so cosy and inviting. Fantastic light management, sharpness and framing.
Thanks for sharing, see you soon and Happy New Year

Very cozy warm atmosphere of this room, quite fitting for an ancient castle, or any old estate with long history, built with meticulous attention to details, always unique, one-of-a-kind. In our modern world of mostly "cookie-cutter" architecture surrounding us, old estates and castles are a wonderful treat to our eyes and hearts.
