Photographer's Note
the tower, seen here in the centre of the picture, and a gable wall, are all that remain of the old 'all saints' church of ireland building in tullylish, county down.
the foundation stone was laid in 1861 during the incumbency of the reverend WB Yeats who was the rector of the parish from 1836 to 1862. he was the grandfather of WB Yeats, the poet and dramatist, and of JB Yeats the painter.
before this one, the original church was destroyed in the 1641 rebellion and finally rebuilt in 1698. it remained in use until the present church was built a few hundred metres away.

Hello Brian
Punchy light contrasts yet with no oe or loss of shadow detail. Good sharpness & vibrant saturated colour. Good pp work which I didn't spot at first. Wonderful graphism & a superb upward pov. Tfs!

This is a fabulous image Brian - Your low POV and wide angle lens has given the shot a dramatic look which I really enjoy. The light on the grass has revealed the textures and fresh green colours perfectly. Looking up the rise both the headstone and church stand proud against a stormy sky. I like the glimpse of countryside too - it adds a wild ambiance to the shot. Excellent. Warm regards Rosemary
PS I notice a slight tonal difference in the sky around the headstone. Did you burn in the sky? This area looks ever so slightly lighter.

Hello Brian,
Beautiful wide angle shot. Nice head stone-tower duo and interesting bits of landscape around. Light, texture in the sunlit zones and dramatic (darken?) sky are very good. The composition is pleasant; another option would have been to cut at right from that modern stone (i.e. distances stone-left side and tower-right side approximately equal), but you perhaps don't fancy squarish format.
Cheers,
Claude

Hello Brian,
a brilliant, very dramatic and atmospheric picture you have created from an excellent point of view. It's wonderful how all the main elements of the composition stand against the agitated sky, seem very imposing and fill the frame. Sharpness and clarity are great. The light is superb and adds more drama while the colours are magnificent. An amazing photo, well done!
All the best, have a great week,

Gidday Brian
What a nice place to be hanging out on your weekend, a graveyard :) My mamma reckons I'm morbid, but the old ones certainly do provide great subjects, especially the Irish ones. I like the low POV here, the positioning of the old graves balancing perfectly the old spire and the colours are wonderful. You've got some sunshine!
Thanks for sharing, have a good evening

Hello Brian,
An interesting note by which I presume that the foundation stone was laid for the new church in 1861 and that this is all that remains of the church which was destroyed and rebuilt in the 17th Century.
Your use of a wide angle lens has given very considerable impact to this shot and the near gravestones balance the church tower beautifully as also does the solitary tree on the right. And all beneath a glorious sky. The bright light on the foreground grass greatly enhances the image too. Lovely colours, perfect exposure and stunning sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Playful composition to make the tombstone appear almost as big as the church tower. And, hey - if that's a church tower...where's the church gone to? (This is where I read the note, hoping to find an answer there.)

Fine picture, thanks for sharing it.

Hi Brian
Superb pov and angled of the sun light coming throught hitting the gravestones and the old church. Well composed and great use of wide lens and closeness to the subjects to accentuate the wide coverage. The stones lead through creating great depth to the image. Superb clarity, exposure, brilliant detail and color tones. The different layers achieved here are wonderful under the blue sky shaded by lovely cloud formation. A great shot that absolutely conveys the atmosphere, the feeling of actually being there surounded by tranquility. Just what a graveyard should look like, a place of peace, serenity and rest. Fabulous photo works.
Best regards

My dear Brio,
I like this shot for the low angle and the perspective that it sets with the stone and the epitaph in the foreground. The clouds have been well captured and there is a sense of erieness when you see it. I have added an even more erie feeling by making a BW workshop. Do view. Many thanks for posting

Hello Brian,
you have chosen an excellent low pov for this photo.Although the tower is almost centre stage this seems to work, demonstrating that sometimes rules can be broken (rule of thirds). You have found a lovely summer's light and although a graveyard, the feeling is of lightness rather than grimness.
best regards,
