the tower, seen here in the centre of the picture, and a gable wall, are all that remain of the old 'all saints' church of ireland building in tullylish, county down.
the foundation stone was laid in 1861 during the incumbency of the reverend WB Yeats who was the rector of the parish from 1836 to 1862. he was the grandfather of WB Yeats, the poet and dramatist, and of JB Yeats the painter.
before this one, the original church was destroyed in the 1641 rebellion and finally rebuilt in 1698. it remained in use until the present church was built a few hundred metres away.

Beautiful image of this interesting place. Like the way you composed the view of the bell tower placed centrally. The cloudy sky and high grass give a dynamic look here. Excellent light control, clarity and sharpness. Like it a lot!

Hello Brian,I love the depth you have given this by using the receding head stones and shadows.
The Tower stands out proudly against an interesting sky,the whole scene is super sharp in a fine composition.
A lovely shot.
All the best Les.

Punchy light contrasts yet with no oe or loss of shadow detail. Good sharpness & vibrant saturated colour. Good pp work which I didn't spot at first. Wonderful graphism & a superb upward pov. Tfs!
SnapRJW (23998) 2012-03-11 5:10
This is a fabulous image Brian - Your low POV and wide angle lens has given the shot a dramatic look which I really enjoy. The light on the grass has revealed the textures and fresh green colours perfectly. Looking up the rise both the headstone and church stand proud against a stormy sky. I like the glimpse of countryside too - it adds a wild ambiance to the shot. Excellent. Warm regards Rosemary
PS I notice a slight tonal difference in the sky around the headstone. Did you burn in the sky? This area looks ever so slightly lighter.
npecanhuk (56480) 2012-03-11 5:46
Very beautiful and interesting picture!
Chosen pov, composiion, saturated colors, level of sharpness and exposure are all excellent here!

Wonderful Ireland landscape with a little mix of history. Great composition. Marvelous POV. Bravo good sunday ihsan
cebe (1365) 2012-03-11 7:10
Beautiful wide angle shot. Nice head stone-tower duo and interesting bits of landscape around. Light, texture in the sunlit zones and dramatic (darken?) sky are very good. The composition is pleasant; another option would have been to cut at right from that modern stone (i.e. distances stone-left side and tower-right side approximately equal), but you perhaps don't fancy squarish format.
dta (57056) 2012-03-11 7:37
Hello Brian ,
So typically Irish ! The low POV works very , well . The composition is excellent . Sky and light are wonderful .
ourania (19024) 2012-03-11 8:37
a brilliant, very dramatic and atmospheric picture you have created from an excellent point of view. It's wonderful how all the main elements of the composition stand against the agitated sky, seem very imposing and fill the frame. Sharpness and clarity are great. The light is superb and adds more drama while the colours are magnificent. An amazing photo, well done!
All the best, have a great week,

What a nice place to be hanging out on your weekend, a graveyard :) My mamma reckons I'm morbid, but the old ones certainly do provide great subjects, especially the Irish ones. I like the low POV here, the positioning of the old graves balancing perfectly the old spire and the colours are wonderful. You've got some sunshine!
Thanks for sharing, have a good evening
PaulVDV (17497) 2012-03-11 15:13
Interesting low POV and beautiful view upwards, good DOF, splendid light and colours.
Nice with the alternation of shade and light on the grass.
Magnificent sky on the background.

Hi Brian, Wonderful photo. I like specially these grasses and the mystic atmopshere. Fantastic composition, fine colours and sharpness. Compliments!
tyro (15841) 2012-03-12 3:20
An interesting note by which I presume that the foundation stone was laid for the new church in 1861 and that this is all that remains of the church which was destroyed and rebuilt in the 17th Century.
Your use of a wide angle lens has given very considerable impact to this shot and the near gravestones balance the church tower beautifully as also does the solitary tree on the right. And all beneath a glorious sky. The bright light on the foreground grass greatly enhances the image too. Lovely colours, perfect exposure and stunning sharpness.
timecapturer (37470) 2012-03-12 3:57
a stunning shot and composition. Love the clarity and fg detailing, plus the light makes the whole image so appealing and effective. Beautiful work!
Enjoy your week - regards Brian.
BennyV (13058) 2012-03-12 6:13
Playful composition to make the tombstone appear almost as big as the church tower. And, hey - if that's a church tower...where's the church gone to? (This is where I read the note, hoping to find an answer there.)
[...] (I did. Thanks!)
Fine picture, thanks for sharing it.

patdeph (35744) 2012-03-12 11:48
wooow, the colors, the light, the details of the grasses are superbly impressive,I love the low POV making the monuments standing out the sky, and the clouds give a magnificent dynamism.Splendid!
Robert1969 (6650) 2012-03-12 12:06
The picture starts with a beautiful point of
view and composition ( I like the combination
of lower position and the wide angle lens in
this picture )and has beautiful light management.
The movement of the clouds are a nice extra.

Pas de doute c'est bien l'irelande..
Il y a seulement en irlande qu'on trouve des atmophère si étranger et contrasté.
On a l'impression de changer d'époque..
Belle prise de vue

Superb pov and angled of the sun light coming throught hitting the gravestones and the old church. Well composed and great use of wide lens and closeness to the subjects to accentuate the wide coverage. The stones lead through creating great depth to the image. Superb clarity, exposure, brilliant detail and color tones. The different layers achieved here are wonderful under the blue sky shaded by lovely cloud formation. A great shot that absolutely conveys the atmosphere, the feeling of actually being there surounded by tranquility. Just what a graveyard should look like, a place of peace, serenity and rest. Fabulous photo works.
lousat (64601) 2012-03-15 15:38
Hi Brian,a very professional capture, what a point of view to create this imposing perspective, and what a magnificent sky, details and colors,so real that i can hear the sound of the wind on the grass! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano.

HimalAnda (7060) 2012-03-18 3:26
The light is very nice, and the composition is perfect. The low point of view is an excellent choice, it gives so strength to the picture, in my opinion.

I just love the bright atmosphere, the brilliant lighting and the clearness and sharpness that are oozing out of my computer screen. Those vibrant colors are very eye captivating too. Love the POV and compo.

the side light enhace the vivid colours of the image with the tower and the graves to are well placed in the image.I like the contrast of the colours, the saturation of them,as the superb blue and puffy sky that completes the photo.

COSTANTINO (44335) 2012-03-25 7:37
excellent capture of this photo in
a personal style with your stamp
great sharpness and lightness
impressive greengrass and a dynamic
contrast between the green of the
earth and the bluegrey of the sky
but the detail I love is the
light that is moving above the earth

satyakki (638) 2012-04-03 6:36
My dear Brio,
I like this shot for the low angle and the perspective that it sets with the stone and the epitaph in the foreground. The clouds have been well captured and there is a sense of erieness when you see it. I have added an even more erie feeling by making a BW workshop. Do view. Many thanks for posting
kiks (11605) 2012-04-04 9:24
Lovely well saturated image. The extremly low pov give a very nice perspective to the tower and graves.
The low sun creating the shadows add something to the image.
Glint (5953) 2012-04-07 1:21
you have chosen an excellent low pov for this photo.Although the tower is almost centre stage this seems to work, demonstrating that sometimes rules can be broken (rule of thirds). You have found a lovely summer's light and although a graveyard, the feeling is of lightness rather than grimness.
RhodieIke (9247) 2012-04-08 1:02
Hi Brian, Like your low Pov, looking from the Grave stone in the grass over the upright one's and on to the splendid Church. Well managed. Wonderful, Have a great Easter Sunday, Regards Iain.
Angshu (52994) 2012-05-08 21:54
Great low angle shot, close to the grass which makes teh tombstone appear big...almost as big as the tower. The light & shadow play of the grass works well. Lively & lovely colours...I read your thread with Matt, with interest. Your pictures are always an inspiration for me!
