Trip to Orkney 2004

Last House in Scotland is a shop and museum, not far from John O'Groats, and harbour with small passenger ferry for Orkney.

John O'Groats-(Taigh Iain Ghròt in Scottish Gaelic)-small village, far north in Scotland. The name came from Jan de Groot, who had a permission for organise ferry from Scotland to Orkney, from King James IV in 1496.

From John O'Groats to Land's End is longest distance between two inhabited points on the British mainland, by route 1407km and by path 1900km.

But John O'Groats is not most northerly point in Scotland, near there is Dunnet Head.
