Photographer's Note
Panoramic image of the view from the Ptarmigan Restaurant terrace, the upper terminus for the Cairngorm Mountain Railway, at the top of Cairngorm mountain. Created from 8 images stitched horizontally using Canon Photostitch utility.
The original image is nearly 20k pixels wide and 2600 pixels high. In order to post I had to increase the height of the canvas. That has made the image a little difficult to view. Hopefully the larger version will help in that respect. A couple of the joins are quite noticeable but hopefully don't spoil the view too much.
If you take the train up you are not allowed to walk out onto the mountain. You can only take in the views. If you walk up you can take the train down!
The lake in the centre is Loch Morlich. The smaller one to the left (at one of the obvious joins) is Loch an Eilean; the subject of my previous post.

Hi Keith,
A really nice stiching job and an excellent panoramic image. You could very well imagine the view in reality from the restaurant terrace when you look at it. The depth is impressive, very far away, but I would have liked to see the same view in better lighting to see even more detail. Even if was quite good weather the lighting was a bit dull. You mention in your note that couple of the joins are quite noticeable and that you hope that they do spoil the view too much. I do not know exactly what you mean with joins, but I suppose you mean what looks like supporting towers to a ski lift. If it is not possible to keep undesired objects outside the frame I often think that it is better to include them in my composition. In the case I would have preferred if the supporting tower to the left had been included in its entirety rather than just a part of it. TFS and have a nice evening!
Kind regards,
Ulf
P.S. Many thanks for your useful comment to my telephone box photo.

Hi Keith,
Great panoramic photos. Teh stitching is pretty good, it is not easy to match everything up with the lens distortion and color variation. Thanks for the effort. The result and effect is really awesome. It makes me feels like stand there with you and turn my head to look at the 180 degree view of the landscape in the large version you uploaded. Beautiful, I wish I have the patience to do more stitching.
Way
