Photographer's Note

Cos its damn hard work and to waste it is daft. Unless you try to scythe you won't know how much effort it requires. It takes a modern tractor about ten minutes or so and a man one full day to mow an acre but the tractor uses 50-100 kilowatt hours whereas a man uses 200 watts times 10 hours or 2 kilowatts hours. That means the tractor is equal to 25-50 men scything which is equal to 25-50 acres done. So is modern farming really efficient with resources. Mind you 5-10 liters of diesel is only costing around ISH $3-$7 hmmm that means if you cut one acre you would get $5-7 for the days work. Don't forget to add extra pay for the depreciation of the tractor and mower, so maybe a further $10-12, a grand total of $13-22 per day
