Photographer’s Note

View on Saint John's Point lighthouse on south coast of county Down, Northern Ireland. This lighthouse stands on Saint John's Point close to Killough, on east side of Dundrum Bay. It is still used to signal entrance to Dundrum Bay. It was built in 1844, then raised in 1893. It is 40 metres height (about 130 feet). It sends two quick white flashes every 7.5 seconds. Its nominal range is 25 miles (about 40 kilometres). From the point you have a nice view to the west on Dundrum Bay and Mourne Mountains. To the south, when weather is good, you can see outline of Isle of Man.

Very good composition and good point of view choosen in order to provide this excellent view, first plane rocks adding value and colour contrasts to the scene are a very good election...

Un cadrage en hauteur idéal pour nous présenter ce phare bi-color. Très bonne idée d'avoir gardé les rochers au premier plan.

Joli cadrage vertical qui fonctionne bien et qui utilise le contraste de couleur entre le jaune du phare et le bleu du ciel.

Hi Olivier,
as you may have noticed I have uploaded three shots from this area recently, I did not know what to do when I arrived there and found a gate saying: private property no entry. I see you did not care. I regret now for hesitating. The lighthouse is very pretty and has amazing location. You have chosen a nice rocky foreground here.
