Photographer’s Note

Every year in May there is a wonderful display of bluebells at Rannerdale in the Lake District National Park. Bluebells usually grow in woodland, so to find them on open ground is a pleasure. We came two years ago and enjoyed the sight so much we returned this year.
Last time the bluebells were at their peak, but this year they needed another week or so to be at their best. I still got one or two good shots.

The lake in the background is Crummock Water. The closest village is Buttermere, near the lake with the same name.

There's nothing to see on the map (Link right)of my position so I marked the small car park for anyone who wants to mark May in their diary to visit next year! ;D

English Bluebells are protected by law and it is a criminal offence to remove any of their bulbs, even if it is your land they are growing on. There is a hardier Spanish Bluebell that is threatening the existence of the English variety, by cross-breeding with them.

There is a surprise in the WS.
