Photographer’s Note

Punting and rowing are a popular sport, art and entertainment in Oxford (as well as in Cambridge), especially in the summertime. The picture represents punts at Magdalen Bridge Boathouse. I softened the image and added a bit of sepia to make it look older.

Great abstraction here, the high contrast and lack of colour really forces our attention to the design and shape of the punts. I'd be tempted to crop the bottom two cut-off punts to close the picture in and overwhelm the viewer with punts. Really great photograph.

Nice perspective. I like the B&W tones, a little less the "glow" effect, but it's a matter of personnal taste. I have the same temptation of cropping the bottom of the picture, just under the first row of whole punts.

Nicely observed graphic pattern here. THe OE decks give it an almost lith effcetive which emphasises the pattern.
