Photographer's Note
The geology of the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye is absolutely fascinating. The dramatic landscapes seen today was created by the longest and most spectacular landslip in Britain. The landslip is caused by lava flows from the Paleogene Age, between the age of the dinosaurs and the last Ice Age, falling away from the weaker Jurassic sediments beneath.
The landslip effect has left us with unique landscapes like the Sanctuary and the Quirang that contain extraordinary rock formations and pinnacles including The Old Man of Storr which is believed to be the remains of an ancient volcanic plug. The rocks we see today are a result of these rocks then being eroded by the weather.

Hi Stephen,
Great landscape image, with great patches of light. The half moon above makes it seem other-worldly. Although I am more into people and culture as a topic of photography, I do appreciate this one. Thanks.

Wow beautiful - a lanscape I have sailed past on many occasions but never made it there yet to walk amongst (Yet)! From my experience it must be a rare day to get such clear weather.....
A fantastic composition it draws your eye to the far skyline, then back to study the middle ground & foreground in more detail. Thanks Stephen - straight to my favourites :)

I've been to Skye for a short while a long time ago but I never saw anything like this. I should have spent much more time, obviously!

ok, a "wow!" does not help much, but wow! what a wonderful landscape, can remember that skye looked
like that when i was there in 1990. (*g*). the light is fantastic and the 3/4 moon a nice addition. i guess it
is slowly time to go back there again. well done & best wishes, thor.

you gallery is an invitation to see UK countryside,
it's a wonderful view, the relief and the colors, the lighting, it's magic
the place is obviously helping to make good photos, but your skills are obvious too, and it's great to have some members like you still on the TE

Hi Stephen
you were at the right place, the right time to catch this marvelous morning (it's on the East coast of Skye if I remember well) light on a stunning landscape. Very sharp DOF on the whole image. And the explanations are scientific ones.
Hats off,
CLODO

Hi Stephen,
Other than Patagonia and Iceland, this is the place I want to go for landscapes shooting before I'm too old to walk around...
And on the Isle of Skye, this is the ultimate view I want to shoot.
And if I can nail it like you did, I'll die a happy man.
Incredible work my friend!

You've managed to capture nearly every color in the spectrum, gorgeous depth of field, and the needle like rock pointing at the moon is spectacular. I was there in 1980; now I want to go back!
