Photographer’s Note

Holidaymakers walk round the paddling pool, just before high tide. A wee bit later the water was too high to get round safely.

When the tide goes out a bit the children can paddle around in the water held in by the wall. On a hot day it's shallow enough to warm up.

North Berwick used to be a popular holiday destination for people from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle, often arriving by train. When cheap air flights arrived British seaside resorts like this suffered a decline. Perhaps with the credit crunch and more environmental awareness their time will come again?
