Photographer’s Note
Coming down off a hillwalk in the Lammermuir Hills, with the East Lothian Walking Festival, we noticed that there were lots of new born lambs in a field near the farm.
One with a new born lamb looked a bit odd and on closer inspection we realised that a twin lamb was in the process of being born. It's mother seemed to be ignoring the first one, but then turned round and started licking it. The umbilical chord from the first lamb was still dangling.
Though a usual occurrence for sheep farmers, I have been going into the hills and countryside for years and this was a first for me.

hello Alastair,
this is a good one for the education of the TE townies! A well caught moment.Nice light and sharp. I posted something similar a few weeks a go although I could only manage one calf.

I think this is a great shot of nature doing its thing although it would have probably gone down better on treknature :-)
As for this comment "I think we can excuse such shots from TE."
I think thats pretty ignorant and rude. I can accept that this may be unpleasant to look at in some respects but thats only the shallow minded view, because i see this as a thing of beauty as is all birth of new life.
