Photographer’s Note
Inspired by Winifred (windosil) I was looking through some scans of old slides and came across this.
I took a group away for the Clipper Challenge in 1982 on the brig Cuidad de Inca (later renamed the Maria Assumpta) from Edinburgh to London.
When we got to Whitby, Ray (the first mate) told us we were going to get out the prayer books. He took us down to the sands and we filled buckets with sand and water, then back to the boat. We were handed wooden blocks, covered them with canvas, sprinkled the sand on the deck and scrubbed, and scrubbed and . . . . (well you get the idea, with a 90 foot long boat it took a while). We wrecked 12 pairs of waterproofs that trip!

I've increased saturation, altered shadow & highlights and sharpened.

Hello Alastair,
Doesn't look like much fun. I guess it makes sense if you have a lot of low cost labor. Thanks for sharing this - it's new to me.
Regards,
Greg
