Photographer’s Note
Most English cathedrals are doted with beautiful cloisters. The one at Gloucester Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in Europe; and it's where this fan-vaulting was invented between 1337 and 1377; It was later used in other Gothic buildings, like Christ Church college Oxford, or the Chapel Royal at Windsor!
These cloisters were used to shoot some of the scenes from "Harry Potter 1 and 2". It shocked more than one, that a Christian religious place should be used to shoot a film about sorcery! If you look at the floor of this cloister, it's paved with tomb stones of monks and clergy!
So that the "sorcerers" wouldn't tread on these sacred tomb stones, they covered it with a wooden floor and plastic lining during the shooting. This is where the scene of the flooding from the girls'bathroom took place. Despite the plastic lining, the water went through the wooden floor, and affected the stone floor! If you look well, you can still see the marks of the flooding on the right by the wall.
In WS: - the quadrangle which you always find outside the cloisters.
- The cloisters seen from another POV. Please tell me what you think of the difference.
- Finally, a WS of my own photo, to try and correct it a little, according to several members'advice!
I am here to learn, so I re-do my homework if it's faulty.
Thank you for all the constructive critiques.

Hi.
This has a very attractive light and colour quality to it...the classical shapes are interesting and show the strength of the structure well.
It's a bit noisy tho', is it scanned film, or digital? you don't say, and something has happened to the vertical features on the left wall. Maybe just because it's such a small file. Thanks,
Dougie.

Bonjour Marie-Louise,
the photo shows a very impressive perspective! it is a pity that it looks a little tilted.
most probably I will never go there to see this with my own eyes, so it is interesting to look at it here :)
But this part of the Cathedral looks a bit uncomfortable to me, a little scary - I don't know why. But this feeling has nothing to do with the photo itself! I think it is because of the architecture (especially the ceiling) which looks "fantastic" to me. Maybe this is because of a strange combination of two tints; bluish and yellowish, but both are cold.
You might be surprised but I have not seen a single episode of Harry Potter and I have read only the very first book about him. Strange, isn't it? :)
Have a nice Sunday!
Kind regards,
Elena

Hi MarieLouise,
A perfect POV and really fine composition. The lighting was perhaps not the best but the soft tones and colours are really attractive indeed. TFS and have a nice Sunday!

Bonjour Marie-Louise,

Bonsoir MarieLouise,
a great capture of this wonderful architecture. I can imagine how this beauty gives inspiration to the people walking around here! It is a fine example of human achievement in the service of something greater than us that can even let the unbeliever's heart jump just a little. TFS!

Hello MarieLouise,
This is a really outstanding piece of architecture. You have shot it very well. Both the original and the WS are good, but the WS seems to be slightly brighter and better composed. Thanks for the picture and for the very informative and interesting note!

Hi MarieLouise,
You manged the light expertly here bringing out all the fine intricate details of the 14th master stone cutters.
Great depth and sharp details to this beauty.
Very interesting note about the movie.

Hi MarieLouise
An attractive cloister has been softly and beautifully captured though an architectural photo requires verticality. The edge of the cloister has been put in place with the rule of thirds. i like this soft rendering, especially the color of artistic ceiling.
Best wishes, Hisashi

Bonjour Marie-Louise.

Saluti e grazie! Nino.

Hello Marie Louise,
I agree, you should have chosen the WS2 picture preferably close to the allowed 300 kB file size. But who would care about technical details when observing such an architectural beauty? Simply phantastic!

Hi Marie Louise,
I like the original post better than the, "Added View." Your instincts are good, the color is better in the original, the straightening WS is a good addition and showing the quadrangle is very interesting.
Your note is excellent, you cover many fascinating details without being too wordy.
