Photographer’s Note
... The United Kingdom allows children as young as 15 3/4 to sign up for the Army... Training begins at age 16... Recruits include "low achievers" who have significant educational or social problems...
... "It's one of the great things about the Army, it does take those people and it does an awful lot with them... it gives them an education, it gives them a skill, it gives them a trade, and gives them a huge sense of self-worth."
(Colonel Mike von Bertele)

in fact - that guy looks as if he was over 40 years old man who looks young... disguised in a wartime "decoration" - he reversed the reality... interesting effect...
best, j.

Very good choice of B&W, look like an old photo, and you played well with the light. I like specially his somewhat absent expression, seeming not so concentrated in what is in front of him but with his look lost somewhere

Hello Robi! Yes this how they do it, otherwise who on earth would apply. My friends in the States have a sister-in-law that came over to the States from Columbia and she became an Army Nurse and therefore received a good education. Luckily she became pregnant and this is how she got out of the Army otherwise she would have faced war. It was VERY close. Anyway, besides this all and considering that this was a fun weekend, I had to smile about how he looks under his helmet, not that young actually but a little lost. Have a great weekend ... Barbara.

I hope your 'model' won't mind being labelled a 'low achiever', even if only by implication. ;D Another fine addition to your series with an additional bit of research to complement it. Glad to see you finally set up the theme. It's great to have them altogether
