Photographer’s Note

In my last post, I sent a photo of the inside of this cathedral, in memory of Marek, as I thought it had some feeling of meditation about it.
Today, I am posting this very ornate South-West door!
As I said in my previous post, the edifice was built from the 11th to the 15th century. That's why you can see a Romanesque base inside, topped with different Gothic styles.
This door was richly decorated by sculptures and statues (6 apostles), and is very well-kept to this day!
The cathedral has always been rich and has always had its own masons who carry out the renovation continuously. The present team of masons is managed by a French "compagnon".
In WS, I am showing 2 photos: 1 dating back to 1895. The cathedral hasn't changed since then!
The other one is a more general view of the cathedral, but partly spoilt by the scaffolding. It's a pity in a way, but on the other hand, they are so lucky to be able to renovate this beautiful piece of architecture on a regular basis.
