Photographer’s Note
This soldier is well happy to be getting home safely from the war. Had enough of sleeping in cold, hiding in trenches and avoid enemy's shellings.
War - what is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Taken during annual Wartime Weekend in Pickering.

I really like the grain and the b&w here most. Yes the smile on his face and the title also.

"" War - what is it good for?

???????????????
What do you mean: Nothing ???
What about the photo opportunities, ha...?
What about that great opportunity to kill your enemies just as smoothly and lawfully as it can be... And, get the medal for it...!
You know what, Rob...?
You guys out there, you guys are to pessimistic for my taste...
Nothn' but the complains and complains and complains... ( Just joking... Just joking...)
.......................
Aren't there too many body parts in there, in your photo, Rob ? :-)))
But, that sepia of yours... Killer in its own league.
Stay on guard

Hi Robert,
It's not the first time I praise this series of yours, which continues to grow without one single less interesting and achieved photo. One of the things I like best in most of them, namely in this one, is the authentic joy of the people you portray. Specially in the case of the B&W's, there is also a very charming appeal of printed paper, which I believe you intentionally enhance with the grain. Did I already mentioned the compo?
If getting so great photos was just a matter of "lucky strike"?... I was a smoker of that brand for many years... :D
Bravo!
Regards, José.

This really is a fantastic series and you were able to get up close and personal on them all. This chap even has authentic dirt! Do you use a PS filter for the grainy look? It doesn't look like the add noise option.

Hello Robi,
Even with everything else going on around it, we are still drawn straight to that face - and its grin! Then we can go on to enjoy the textures and the quality of the grainy sepia.
What a GREAT series this is!
All the best....Maggie
