Photographer’s Note

A view of the herb garden in the grounds of the Tudor Manor House of Ightham Mote.

The half-timbered cottages in the background have an archway in the centre. Once thought Elizabethan they are now dated at about 1475 during the reign of Edward IV.

Ightham Mote (pronounced "item moat") is a medieval moated manor house close to the village of Ightham, near Sevenoaks in Kent. The name "mote" derives from "moot", "meeting [place]", rather than referring to the body of water.
