My shot shows a view of Chirk Castle and part of its delightful garden.
Chirk Castle has been almost continuously occupied as a castle or as a stately home for over 700 years.
The Castle was built in the 13th century by Roger Mortimer, who was granted the area by Edward 1, after the defeat of the Welsh in 1282.
In 1595 it was purchased by Sir Thomas Myddelton for £5,000 and has been in the hands of that family until the present day. The family still work much of the estate but the building is now in the care of the National Trust.
A link here will tell you much more about the history of this splendid castle.
I was curious about the shape of the conifers in the gardens and was told by the curator that they are cut to show the style of Welsh ladies' hats.
Thank you for stopping by, Bev :-)

Good morning Beverly,
In the attached link there is a fabulous view of the castle from above, looks wonderfulocation. Your pic. show a corner POV and the meticulousely cared garden. Though it was in early spring, the trees looks still with their winter shades in brown.
The castle edifice is well preserved, windows look occupied indoor's.
Cheers for a lovely place presented, did not know about it's existance till now - that's what TE stands for.

Picture is well done in terms of contrast and luminosity, the castle is well framed, also, color saturation is well-rendered .

a very well composed image here. Like the angular POV. The interesting architecture is a nice point of attraction here. These trees in sequence added depth to it. Nice light and natural colours. Very well done. Tfs.

the lovely shapes of the well manicured trees combined with the impressive architecture of the Castle are well composed across the diagonals to give a really nice depth to the shot.
The lighting is delightful, helping to add to the overall enjoyment of the scene.
Kind regards Les.

Yes, they do have a resemblance to the traditional Welsh hats, though I don't think many Welsh ladies wear them nowadays:-) They also mirror the round towers of the castle and serve to give the image depth. The ambient light is most pleasant and brings out the colours and detail in the architecture and topiary qwork to good effect.

This design is quite eye catching, and without your note I too would wonder as to its purpose. It certainly does make for a very appealing and elegant building, and one with such a long colorful history. Great presentation between the gardens and blue sky.
All the best

a wonderful shot of contrasts this. A perfect POV that is most effective at bringing the organic and man made elements together so beautifully. Excellent!

This is a very nice-looking castle and a rather curious garden. Resembling Welsh hats or not, the strangely shaped bushes also resemble the rounded parts of the building. From this diagonal perspective we can see how the two parts of the composition fit very well together. The colours are very good and the exposure is absolutely faultless.

Nice photograph of this lovely looking castle taken from a good angle showing the path and the row of well groomed conifers which gives real depth to the shot. Just hope for the gardener s sake he has got an electric hedge trimmer. Wonderful sky and lighting Beverly, like it very much.

are you allowed to enter inside the Castle? I always ask because I always want to go inside and peek around!
nice to know its been occupied all these years, as apposed to allowing the structure to rot and whither away.
funny about the 'hats' too.
cool shot, lovely subject in this warm light.
jcpix (6504) 2013-08-21 15:19
Now honestly, have you ever seen a woman wearing a hat in that form? :) I don't mean the shape, I'm talking about it actually being shubbery?? haha O.k., my failed attempt at humor. Sorry. ;)
I'm guessing it had to be difficult to decide where to take this shot, the landscape as it were, would seem to cause some problems obstructing the view of the castle. Whatever the case, you found a wonderful angle to showcase both elements. Wonderfully detailed in focus and perspective, this has a lot of facets to enjoy scanning over. A beautiful and bright blue sky has added to the appeal of this most delightful castle and grounds. I particularly enjoy the composition that takes my eye on a journey of its own up and over all of the well manicured conifers as they fade out into the distance. Enjoy the day ahead.

This is a very nice - looking castle and garden. You have captured the mood of this beautiful place extremely well.

I like the roundedness of things here. The conical shaped trees seem to be in sympathy with the rounded parts of the castle walls.
The darkness of the tree on the left gives the image a contrast to the brightness and brings out the colours.

There are many interesting things to enjoy and to read here, with your long note and the included link. Naturally, your picture is also very interesting with these "sculptures" along the castle.
