Photographer’s Note
Tree of Life
This old tree leans out over a deep stream cut gorge in the woods above Talybont Reservoir.
Mostly, if not entirely dead, the main trunk and major branches are covered in thick green moss, whilst the smaller branches, as yet unaffected, radiate out in a multitude of glistening white paths - leading to this oddly captivating effect, combining strong patterns of darkness, light and depth.

Hola Colin,
The light, the color and the simple framing do of this image a charming capture of the autumn tones, I like very much the dry branches of the tree that they emphasize on the dark fund of the forest.
A big work, congratulations.
Un saludo.

Hi Colin,
simple, but extremly well presented! The framing is perfect, just as the great green tones. Great idea, that tree looks great, a surreal, mysty image, I like it a lot, thanks for sharing!
Take care

Hi Colin,
What a fascinating image, at once mysterious and graphically appealing. The fact that the branches reach down towards the floor of the gorge rather than up towards the sky creates an interesting perspective, like peering into an abyss. As you say, the contrast between the glowing green of the moss-covered branches and the swirling silvery white twigs creates a very striking graphic effect. I'm particularly impressed by how harmoniously everything fits together without any distracting extraneous elements (far from easy with this kind of subject).
In many ways it seems the exact opposite of the tree of life, but not for that reason any less fascinating.

Hi Colin,
Nice as the branches are reaching for the gorge below, and you had a great POV turning this almost abstract. Half green half grey gives a nice feeling.

I really like this one Colin! The intricate pattern of the branches is on full display here, with the dark background and the slight amount of backlighting, showing an outline of the tree. Beautiful work!

Hi Colin,
Wow!... Does such place really exists or you sneak into a film studio where they were filming a sequel of Lord of the Rings?
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
You did a great framing/cropping and excelled in mastering the amazing light.
Congratulations, it's really a great photo.
Regards, José.

Colin,
An unusual POV for a photo of a tree. I can't help but think of an ent reaching out its fingers to grasp or perhaps embrace some hidden depth of the forest. Somewhat ironic that this “dead” tree can inspire such impressions of animation and indeed life.
Technically: great contrasts and sharpness and perfect amount of detail!
Cheers,
Jordan

Hello Colin -
I take it the tree is upside down - looking at it is a bit disconcerting to the senses. The color and texture of the tree make this shine a bit. I like the abstract shapes and tones that are in the scene. Well seen on your part.
Thank you for sharing.
John
