Still in the woods.
I took a few shots of this scene, but got the exposure wrong on every one of them. The branch, being hit by the sun, was just so much brighter than everything else. Hence, the conversion to b&w, where the overexposure is not unadvantageous to the image.

I think it works quite well, although the image does lose the impact of the fantastic play of light in the falls. Which are far less obvious here.

Great shot Colin!

The shadows around the waterfall have enabled it to standout nicely against the dark backdrop. The addition of the lit branches in the foreground is the icing on the cake. The contrast of both is well shown off in your choice to go B&W. Sharp detail and a well chosen border make this one stand out from the crowd.

Cheers,
- Dan

Hello Colin, the conversion to b&w has worked well for you here.
The branch appears as if in a negative. The light play on the water is still impressive,
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hello Colin! I really like the sun light on the branches, it gives your b/w photo the special kick and some light to the woods, and I really like this. The frozen in water in the back is really special and gives an artistic touch to your photo. Very good work indeed. Have a good Sunday, or at least what is left of it ...a long and nice evening, I hope. Barbara.

Very good and original image! The idea to convert to black & white was a good one, because as you say, the overexposure is not as noticable, and may even be an advantage. I like the combination of the tree branch and the waterfall, one crooked and intricate, the other smooth and flowing. Great piece of work!

Good work Colin,
dont tell us you did not get the exposure right, this image looks OK: exposure long enough to blur the water, yet still not too long to blur it completely. And the branch gives it much desired sense of scale.

Bonjour Colin
Une autre très belle composition dans le bois et l'effet longue pose est très réussie. Juste un petit bemol sur la branche assez lumineuse en premier plan?
Bravo à toi
Eric

Hey Colin,

First off, a nice effect. B&W works well. The lighting was clearly working in your favor. Beside that, the motive is at the same time subtle and nicely exposed, at least in the lower portion of the photo. I like the contrast on the waterfall, which is created by the specific lighting here. Well, a gorgeous photo in short.

Enjoy.

wonderful creative shot. works great in BW

Hello Colin -

I like this image. The B&W really work well here with the white branch and veiled falls on a black BG. This is a keeper in my book. All of the technicals seem to be where they belong and only you would know that the branch is OE'd. Well done.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Ciao Colin,
excellent framing with the branches in foreground. Great B&W conversion. Very nice picture of this waterfall.
Have a nice sunday
Anna

Most of your shots have a very bold, graphic nature that is somewhat of a signature for you. Keep it up as it works really well. It's always good to try new things but I like the old adage, "If it isn't broken......". Nice work, PHIL

A splendid selection photo, of an oriental asceticism, to me it is very dear.
Congratulations
